We were looking for a spot for the family to hang out on the beach and this was a perfect area. We like to park close to the water and this fit the bill. You do

“Mixed feelings”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2013

It's unfortunate that you have to pay to park & get onto almost any beach in Galveston. We paid $8 here. Thankfully it wasn't too busy because it was back to school time already. We found most of the offerings of bathrooms, showers, & food to be unmanned, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that maybe it's simply because it was technically off season. We rented some nice chairs & an umbrella for $30 until 4pm. Wish it had been an actual lounging chair vs a regular upright chair. The whole area was very clean, I must admit, & thankfully once we located an employee, she was able to turn on the outdoor showers for us so we could jump back in our car! I'd love it if more places offered a shower head or dog friendly wash-we came home with one filthy stinky lab!

“much more than i expected!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2013

ive been to galveston in the past but never went to a beach here. i must say i was impressed at how nice it was. relatively free of trash, not as many people as i expected, umbrella rentals, mobile concession stands (snowcones mostly) walking distance to mc donalds, warm water and good sized waves. simply put, i had a blast. the only fee i paid was $5 for parking

“Pleasantly surprised”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2013

We went to Galveston for spring break with the kids. I think I found out about Stewart beach on one of the TripAdvisor forums and so we ended up going there rather than staying along the seawall. We were pleasantly surprised by the beach! It was clean and the sand was nice. Not sure if it was natural or may have been brought from outside but it was nice and powdery unlike what I have come to expect from most beaches in the US. There are fast food places right across the street that you can walk to. Overall a good place to spend a couple of hours with the family.

“It is the beach....”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013

Pros: You are at the beach. The shore is deep so kids can go pretty far out and not worry about deep water. The water is not chilly and not too warm. The beach is kid friendly.

Cons: $8.00 admission per car and $30 to rent an umbrella with two chairs. You have to arrive very early in the morning to find a spot to put up a cabana. There are way too many rules to setting up a cabana. Alcohol is prohibited (although if you are discreet and act like an adult, you will have no problems).

Overall I had a good time on Stewart Beach. It is not Hawaii or the Carribean Sea, but it is the beach and with the right company, it makes for a pretty good time.
