“Stayed here before our cruise”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2012

We made reservations at this hotel online, to stay a night before our cruise for a very reasonable price because we booked it w/non-refundable. We ended up coming down a day early, and they gave us the another night for the same price - so kudos to them for that great service. The hotel is just a few blocks from the Seawall, so its in a good location. There is also the waterpark next door.
We had a room on the backside, second floor. The room was clean, the bed was comfy. It wasn't a Hilton, but we didn't expect such. We had a kingsize bed, a separate sitting area w/a desk and refrigerator. The bathroom was roomy with plenty of shelf space for our bathroom stuff.
The ONLY problem we had, and it wasn't the fault of the hotel, was the mosquitos were unbelievable when you walked outside! There is drainage canals on the front & backside of the hotel, and I guess this is where they were coming from. As soon as we parked to unload our suitcases we were literally covered with them! We dashed to our room and tried to get in w/o letting the pesky little buggers in with us. We ended up having to go buy some bug spray at WalMart just to get in & out of our room. There is a free putt-putt course on the grounds that guests can use, but we heard people that had tried to play, and were having the same problem w/mosquitos there too - its in front of the hotel. It may have just been the time of year, and this isn't an ongoing problem. Its certainly not the hotel's fault.
The breakfast in the mornings is Continental style, held in the front lobby. They had fruit, breads, bagels, waffles you could make yourself, yogurt, milk, coffee & juices. We aren't big breakfast eaters, so this was more than sufficient for our taste.
The second night we were to stay, we left our room early that morning, and returned about 5 to take showers before we went out to eat. We were disappointed our room wasn't cleaned by that time. The maid was just getting to our room when we drove up. We had to wait in the lobby about 30 minutes. That was our only problem with service, and we didn't complain to anyone.
For a quick stay, clean rooms at a good price, this hotel was just what we wanted before our cruise. We would go again.

The check in process went smoothly but it went downhill from there. We were given a room in the back of the main building on the first floor. The entryway outside our door needed a good sweeping, a lot of dead bugs and trash near the walls. When we entered our room I was shocked at the number and size of the stains in the carpet, very dirty. There were many things in the room that required maintenance - I can understand if they missed one problem in a room, but I don't know how they could have overlooked so many. The floor lamp did not work, the toilet did not flush properly, the cold water faucet for the sink was very loose, the bathtub was dirty, one of the shower knobs did not work, the ceiling light fixtures were littered with bugs and we found a number of huge roaches/water bugs crawling around. In the morning we went for breakfast but it was very crowded. On the flip side the room was spacious, the bathroom countertops were newer, the room had what appeared to be a fresher coat of paint and the beds were comfortable. If more attention was paid to cleaning and maintaining the room I would have given the hotel a better rating. I was expecting a 2-1/2 star hotel but it seemed more like a 1 star.

We stayed at Inn at the Waterpark for one night and happy it was for only one night. Our room was on the 2nd floor with no elevator, room was old and shabby. Free breakfast the next morning was a joke. There was room for about 20 people in the breakfast area and the hotel must have been completely booked as the breakfast area was packed. We went to a restaurant and paid for our breakfast. The hotel staff was completely disinterested - either about our room being on the 2nd floor and no elevator or that the breakfast area was inadequate. They just stared at us with a "you have me confused with someone who cares" attitude.

We stayed one night so we could attend an event at Moody Gardens the next day. The hotel rooms in the back building were clean and spacious. A bit noisy when people moved around the hallway, but not too bad.

I accidentally left a tablet in my room when checking out. I called later that evening upon arriving home and discovering I didn't have my tablet. They said they had my tablet and that I could come pick it up. Two days later, the story changed to that they never found the tablet, and that it was a mis-communication when I called and that they meant, yes, we will look for it and not yes, we have it.

They filed an insurance claim for me, or so I thought, but when I spoke with the insurance company, the lady said I would never be compensated for the tablet since the hotel said they never found it and their word won versus mine.

This should speak to the character of the people running the establishment -- covering for petty theft by employees.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your stay. athough the comment about the employees being thieves is a slanderous statement. Your item that was claimed to be left in the room was never there. In the past guest's tha thad truely forgotten their items, some of which were extreamly valueable, were recovered and returned. We take theft of items very serious and investigate and report each claim and when the situation warrents the appropiate action is taken.

HOTEL: Located near Schlitterbahn & the Lone Star Flight Museum, this hotel is NOT on the main drag (Seawall Blvd) or even within walking distance when it's hot. That's what makes it attractive to us. It also provides a lot for the money. The property contains an older (main) building, a new building with parking garage & elevators, a pool, a clubhouse and a miniature golf course.

CHECK-IN: We booked under the Advance rate this time, pre-cruise. For $50 (+ tax), we got room, free cruise parking, free shuttle to the port, and free breakfast. And although we checked in early, after a good lunch at The Spot, we were able to get our room right away.

ROOM: We chose a room was in the old section this time. The bathroom fixtures were dated (a typical 1970s layout) and the rooms opened to the outside. There are no elevators - something to consider if you have a lot of luggage.

The room was very large, clean, calmly decorated, and cool. It faced the street behind the hotel, with the school & air field beyond... we never heard a thing! And we know people later occupied the rooms around us, but we never heard them come in. Our king bed was very comfortable, with plenty of pillows. For a couple who sleep on a TempurPedic bed, that's saying a lot!

SERVICE was, as previously experienced, excellent. We discovered that our deadlock didn't work without lifting the door, etc., so we reported it. Within 15 minutes, someone came and fixed it completely. And the extra towels we requested came shortly thereafter, fresh out of the dryer. :)

BREAKFAST was tasty, with a large variety: pancakes, cereal, yogurt, danish, bagels and fresh fruit; beverages included fruit juices, tea & coffee, with condiments of half & half and various sweeteners. We always go to breakfast early, and there was no problem getting a table. People always seemed to finish as others came in.

CHECKOUT is either from the phone in your room, or at the desk. As we checked out around 9:15, we only had to wait for one family to finish. Surprisingly, people were already lining up their luggage for the shuttle out front, which we were told wouldn't arrive till 10:00 AM. Sadly, there was the same issue this time - inconsiderate people putting their luggage right in front of the entrance to the hotel.

SHUTTLE: From Moody Gardens, it holds about 20-22 people and their luggage. When we saw how much luggage people were lining up, and how they were jockeying for position when the shuttle arrived, we decided to wait. Two shuttles came at once, first dropping off passengers coming off the ship, then loading those waiting to go over. We let those go and got on the uncrowded third shuttle, which got us to the cruise terminal at 11:00 AM. The shuttle driver told us on the way over that she would first drop off our luggage with the porters, and then take us to the drop-off point, which was also where she would pick us up when we returned. While the luggage was unloaded, we wondered how we'd be able to tip the porters. No worries! One of them came aboard & asked if anyone had tips. Then we were dropped off at the red flag drop-off/pick-up spot, and we were on our way to the Magic!

As you can see, a very positive experience for us - again. We always recommend this hotel to other cruisers who don't mind being off the beaten path.

Room Tip: In the main building, you can choose from King or Queen beds; remember, there are no elevators. In...

we stayed there for a pre cruise night prior to leaving on Carnival Magic. We got there around 430pm flying from very far away and our rooms were not ready. We waited till about 6 pm to get in the rooms (3 of them), then I notice mold around the fire sprinkler in the ceiling in one of the rooms. I took a picture and showed the front desk person and they did nothing, other than saying we did not know about that, no other rooms to offer since it was sold out, so i was stuck. It was clean other than the MOLD. It was a Saturday so all the overflow from the water park was staying there, very LOUD, kids racing up and down the hall ways, we got up very early and said forget about the free shuttle they offer to the cruise terminal we took a cab. Spend the extra money go somewhere else

We stayed on 8/10/12 for one night to extend our trip and our room in the new addition in back was much nicer than our room in a 2.5 star hotel during the first part of our trip. Very clean, nice bedding, spacious room, continental breakfast had a better selection than our earlier hotel as well. Very good value for the price. No idea if the main hotel has updated rooms or not; stayed here in about 2006 and those rooms were pretty dated, but clean. Not on the seawall, but only about 5 min drive away. Hotel staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. Would definitely stay again, especially for the price. Only downside was we heard a few screaming kids in the morning and evening before 10 or so - this is definitely a family hotel. Not sure why parents allow their kids to scream in hotels, but this can happen everywhere :)

Room Tip: Ask for the new addition building in back.
