“Fantastic experience”
Reviewed September 9, 2012

We were running late so made a speedy visit to the Elissa as always wanted to experience actually alighting an old Spanish ship such as this one and it exceeded all expectations. The woman in attendance at the shop was very friendly and approachable about my late arrival and happily let me go on in such a short space of time whilst my husband had a beer or two at the local Olympia bar at Pier 21. Though a hasty trip I thoroughly enjoyed what I saw and was well worth the effort. Would have loved to try sailing on it if given the opportunity! So much history attached to it and yet in such mint condition. Took heaps of photos in short space of time, so I could take in the deck, galley, captain's and shipmates' quarters etc., not to mention the deck! Heaps of history recorded in photos, info etc.on board but little time to study them! Will just have to get back there some day!

“Beautiful”
Reviewed September 3, 2012

Loved the craftsmanship! We took the self guided tour and enjoyed every minute of it. We were fortunate to arrive when the doors opened but were told to wait half an hour for the self-guided tour to start....don't really know why since it is self-guided, but sure, why not, we are on vacation time.
The entire tour took no more than an hour and half, even with me going through certain rooms a few times because it was that beautiful and I really wanted to pay attention to all the little details.
A definite must see on the island.

“Good but...”
Reviewed September 1, 2012

We really liked seeing the palace and hearing the history, but we timed it wrong. Call ahead if you want the self guided tour to be sure they aren't having a guided tour at the time you want to be there. We arrived just before a guided tour was starting, and were told we could take that or wait 45 minutes for the self guided one. We didn't want to wait so we went on the guided one. It was frustrating because we couldn't go at our own pace, and had to wait while people asked lots of questions. It would have been okay if they would have let us walk though on our own after the tour was over but they wouldn't. I didn't understand why, the price was the same for both tours, and you have unlimited time for the self guided one. It was definitely worth seeing and interesting though. We just didn't plan well enough.

“Just beautiful!”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

If you like historic houses, you'll LOVE this one. The Greshams who had it built spent a chunk o' change on this beauty! Gorgeous woodwork and stained glass. Many original features. Ignore the awful ceiling paintings by one of the ladies of the house ... genuinely terrible but who's going to tell her!?! Well worth the visit. Audio walking tours available. Lovely eccentric little gift shop full of charming gifts!
