Restaurant was personally recommended and highly rated on trip Advisor. Tried to access menu online but could not find one. Now I know why. We visited on Saturday evening at 6:30pm. Prices were through the roof for marginal food accompanied by a horrible, arrogant waiter. Three softshell crabs $34.75, filet, crabmeat, & shrimp for $32.50. Did not get what we ordered. Filet turned out to be a 1/2 inch thick shoe leather ribeye, baked potatoes were never delivered (promised twice) but waiter eventually brought cold lyonnaise potatoes. Yet the baked potatoes appeared on the bill. Felt ripped off and very dissapointed when we left.

This restaurant is a hidden gem in Galveston. If you are in the area, love really exceptional seafood and a relaxing environment, stop in and see Mr. Clary and his excellent staff. You will be happy you did and will want to go back soon!! We live in Kansas City and we will be using Galveston as our cruise port because of driving distance and we will be going to Clary's whenever we are in town. The seafood was the best in town by far!!!

When you pull up, don't let the looks of the outside deture you. Just walk in and you'll see the difference. Eveything was great! The staff was kind and welcoming. The complimentary boiled shrimp were delicious. We both got one of the house favorites and it was great comfort seafood with a little cajun flair. Don't worry about eating with your hands, because a bowl of warm water with lemons is delivered at the end of your meal to clean up.

My wife and I have eaten here for over 30 years. It had been a long time since we were back in Galveston and we re-visited our favorites. Clary's is a little off the beaten path, behind the Galveston newspaper building, and nowhere near the other restaurants. If you want the usual seafood you can get in any big city, go ahead and go to a chain restaurant. If you want some of the best seafood you will ever eat, take a moment and set the GPS, and indulge in Clary's. It was founded years ago by a former chef at Gaido's and is in a non-descript building in across the water from Moody Gardens. Years ago, I would regularly order the off-the-menu baked lump crab with chives, butter and cheese. Only the regulars knew about it then, but now Clary has graciously allowed you mere mortals to taste and see, since it is a seasonal item on the regular menu. This dish is beyond fabulous. Yes, it probably has a million calories, but just take your Lipitor and indulge. Oh! And the Lyonaise potatoes are cooked with a Cajun spice (yum!). The gumbo is not to be missed, and the chocolate cream cake is a fine ending to a marvelous meal.
No pretension here, but food to die for....
