“Nice & comfortable room.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 17, 2004

We stayed at this motel for 2 nights in Oct 2003. We had a great time. Our room was large and clean with 2 comfortable queen beds w/ microwave & mini-fridge. The motel looked fairly new (a few yrs old?) Our kids (4 and 9) liked the pool a lot. The pool also had an outdoor shower area to rinse off our sandy bodies from the beach before dipping ourselves into the pool. Our kids would use the pool when we did not feel like staying at the beach with them. A hot tub was right next to the pool and it was not heated all the time (it was heated only part of the day). Actually, this was a PLUS for us, because when it was heated, it was too hot for our kids to enjoy. The tub was luke warm in the morning - perfect temperature! The motel is a small block away from the beach. We could see the blue sea from our 2nd floor room. Gaido's and Casey's restaurants are also 1/2 block away. We walked to Casey's to eat - that was also great. The motel cont-breakfast was ok: muffins and cereal.. do not remember if there were any donuts (we dont eat donuts!) So, if you are looking for a nice clean room and dont want to pay at the Hilton or Holiday Inn price, this is the place! You wont be dissappointed. We will go back to this place.

Galveston is a great place to visit. After the month of May, it is too hot to be enjoyable. But March, April, and May are fantastic. I stayed at the Econolodge on Ave U. I was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness and customer service. The building must be recently updated. The pool and spa were nice too. The location is one block from the beach on 39th street. If you are on a budget, but want a nice motel, Econolodge is it. And Galveston is a convenient get-away.

The lodge was presented to us over the telephone as one of the newest and nicer ones. The front office entrance was dirty.I was afraid to touch the door. The desk was not much better. The breakfast area left something to be desired, wouldn't eat there even if I was starving. At the elevator we were disgusted at the dirt outside the elevator, in the elevator beer cans on the floor. The garbage cans were awful. Get to the third floor cigarette butts all over the balcony which incidently were still there when we checked out the the next day. The corridor where we stayed had birds mess every where. he room not too bad 80% clean had to do some wiping off before we could use anything. Beautiful granite in the bathroom but it was falling off at the wash basin and was badly patched together. Next morning hand in the keys and the young ladies are sitting in the dining breakfast room yacking away instead of cleaning it up.Never again.

I read the other reviews about this place before we went to galveston and was a little concerned. We got a rate of 49.95 per night and it was well worth it. All I can speak for was for our room. Everything was clean and worked ok. The pool and hot tub worked fine and the beach is in walking distance. Great place to stay if you are going for the beach and are not going to be in the room all day. I gave it a 3 because that is an average rating and in no way is this place above average. The place looks older than 2 years old as it proclaims itself the newest hotel in galveston. I think that is a bit of a stretch. But the place is in good shape and I would stay there again. You get an average room at a great price nothing more nothing less.

This was definitely a cheap hotel. We got our money's worth. Since we didn't stay in the hotel room except to sleep (3 kids under 7) it worked out but we won't stay there again. Our room seemed fairly clean but the laundry facilities reaked of vomit and the stairways and walkways were filthy. I can't really explain the feeling we got while we stayed there but you could tell it was on the lower scale side.

This was, by far, the worst hotel/motel I've ever been to. The first two rooms we looked at were filthy and both bathtubs had large patches of mildew. Finally, they showed us a room that was decent and we agreed to stay. Next time (if we ever decide Galveston is worth it), we will budget our money better and stay where there is no fear of What's In The Bathtub! It's not worth it!!By the way, when I complained to management about the condition of the room(s), he offered to give me 10% off the NEXT TIME I stay there! HA! Not gonna happen!I could go on about the "continental breakfast" and that it proclaims itself as "the newest hotel in Galveston". PUH-LEASE!!
