Travelodge Galveston
Ranked #45 of 51 Hotels in Galveston

We booked using the Travelocity "top secret hotels" hoping we would end up with a good hotel, as we've had a great experience with top secret hotels in the past. We got the Travelodge. After reading all the horror stories on here, I was super scared to open the door. I was nervous about roaches and bed bugs. We did an EXHAUSTIVE search for bugs and bed bugs as soon as we got there (literally ripped the beds apart). Did not see any bugs, and the mattress looked pretty new. So that was the good news. The bad news was the disgusting smell of the room. It smells like mildow and mold, and it's overpowering. Since there's no carpet, it seems like there shouldn't be much to hold in smells. I figured out the problem the next day, because when we got back from the beach and hung up our wet towels and suits to dry, they were still sopping wet in the morning. No ventilation or air flow in the room plus lots of moisture in the air/on clothes= MOLD! The bathroom area was not very clean, the shower curtain was dirty, the bathroom smelled like it had not be cleaned in a long time, and it was generally just icky. I did not take off my flip-flops except to sleep, I even wore them in the shower (especially the shower!). Housekeeping came early on the second day but all she did (as far as I could tell) was make the beds with the same sheets and restock towels. Sink area/bathroom were not touched or cleaned. So it's a do-it-yourself kind of place. The front desk guy is infamous on here for being rude. He did lots of staring and seemed put-off to have to deal with us. After reading all of his negative reviews, we messed with him a bit and just stared at him silently until he had to speak.
So overall, we did not encounter any roaches or bed-bugs, which was our primary concern, but it wasn't the most pleasant of places. Probably won't be back.

Room Tip: 2nd Floor (215) was Bug-Free

The hotel was tolerable for what I needed. I was disappointed that the pool was not clean, the water was green. Some do not want the beach and sand everyday - so there was no opportunity to cool off without the waves. Check in not until 4 p.m., I had a 4 yr old that needed to cool down and rest - but we could not check in before 4. Galveston sites made the trip - the room was for rest and sleep.

We were going and only staying one night in Galveston to get on a cruise ship. This was the only hotel that was priced under $100 per night about $70 is what we paid. The pictures were very deceiving they looked like really nice rooms til we arrived. First thing the restroom roaches pouring out of the back of the toilet. Plaster was coming off the walls and the flooring had been laid on the old moldy flooring that was still in place from the 1970's. Then the smell and the dirty towels and shower curtain. After all that we try to go to sleep, we may as well have slept on concrete with a piece of cardboard!!! This place was horrible I will most definitely research and find reviews before booking next time.

This used to be part of another chain. Travelodge now has this place "individually owned and operated." Seems like they operate on a shoestring budget. Had a number of times when people were moved next to me that made a fair amount of noise. Slight deterioration of the premises noticable. I checked out before sunup, and there was no clerk. Just a sign of the state of affairs there.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.
