“Amazing art”

I often drive visiting friends and family up and down the streets to view these sculptures. They are beautiful to see as well as thoughtful reminders of the devastation from Hurricane Ike and the recovery from it.

“Interesting sculpture”
Reviewed October 1, 2013

Although it is very sad that Galveston lost many of the live oak trees during the hurricane it was interesting to see the great sculptures made from the trunks.

It would have been more helpful to have an organized layout on the flyer describing them. It was a bit confusing which order made sense to see them all. So plan ahead.

Our favorite was the sculpture of the friendly Great Dane, who is the family dog, and still resides at that home.

“Wood do this again”

Great way to spend the afternoon (walking). The creativity is outstanding and instead of homeowners tearing out the trees, they turned them into art.

“Creativity at Its Finest”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

You can do a self-guided tour (compliments of the visitors center) or take a guided tour like we did. I HIGHLY recommend the guided tour conducted by very knowledgeable "locals." Hurricane Ike destroyed thousands of trees in Galveston, but instead of ripping them all out, various artists were commissioned to carve many of them into veritable works of art; everything from an Angel to a dog dressed in a Houston Texan uniform!! All of the carvings are unique, and the tour guide has an equally unique story to tell about each one. If you're coming to Galveston, it's a tour well worth taking....you won't forget it!!
