It's worth pulling the map off the Internet to follow the tour. We first saw them shortly after they were completed so they seemed beautifully varnished. Most have not been updated since. It's still a great tour and Free!!

“Don't miss this!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

Ask the hotel clerk where you can get a guide that shows you streets to take, addresses, who did the sculpture, etc. We had a BLAST driving around in the car looking at the sculptures done by artists that came up with the idea of using the destroyed trees as artwork!

“Interesting”

We took the self-guided tour of the tree sculptures and enjoyed seeing them. Some are harder to find than others.

We enjoyed doing the tour one afternoon after we completed our visit to the Strand. The ones that were carved into standing trees were especially cool!!

“Free cool art on permanent exhibition!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2013

The people of Galveston have again proven their amazing resiliance and creativity! When beautiful old oak trees were damaged in Hurricane Ike several years ago, they saw beauty in the remnants. Some artists skilled with chain saws came in and carved really cool statutes from the tree trunks, and the art is free for the viewing.

You can see the trees by driving by, or walking a few blocks, or by taking a walking or bus tour. It's a really fun way to spend an hour or two trying to spot the art in various yards. The most amazing part is how the artist was able to see and create beauty from the remains of a damaged tree!
