This is a good trip for a family to do when the weather is nice outside. Take some bread to feed the birds, take a camera to get some dolphin pics and take in the views of Galveston and the Bolivar Peninsula from the water. You can park in the lot and walk on the ferry, or you can drive on and cruise down the Peninsula. Just avoid driving over or back when the summer crowds are out. You can call the ferry landing and they'll give you the current estimated wait time for cars to get on. Can't beat the price.

Hop on the ferry and ride back and forth (either with your car or by parking your car and walking on). Look for the dolphins and check out the remains of the Selma a WWI concrete ship. Always lots of nice folks to share the experience with.

This ferry is part of the Texas highway system, runs about every 20 minutes during the day. Can't beat the price- and if you don't have an interest in going on to visit the Bolivar Penninsula, you can even park your car at the Docks and walk on to just ride back and forth.

You can't beat the ferry for a fun, free thing to do in Galveston. Drive on, park your car, get out and go up top to enjoy views of dolphins, huge ships, seagulls. Locals using the ferry stay in their car, but we who can't get enough of the water, get out! You can drive off, turn around and return to Galveston Island at the end. It's about 30 minutes each way. Certain times there is probably quite a line to get on but the times we have gone it has not been a problem. Try it!

We wouldn't think of going to Galveston and not taking the Ferry ride! So nice to stand on viewing decks and watch the sea birds and dolphins all around. Ride is smooth and I've gotten some of my best pictures from these decks! We take our car and drive the 4 or so miles to Stingaree Marina for a Po Boy lunch, walk along the shore, or even drive all the way to Winnie. Even if you need to ride over and straight back, I recommend. Laid-back, pretty scenery, peaceful, quiet time!
