I have fond memories of riding the ferry as a child and this was one of the must do's on our family vacation. It rained on our ride to the Island and the sky had cleared on our trip back to Galveston Island. We saw dolphins near the ferry which made the experience even more fun!

Best value in Galveston! If the lines are long, just park and walk on, then ride back. If the lines are reasonable, drive on, turn around once on the other side and ride back. Once parked and engine is off, go upstairs to the observation level for a great view of the ship channel and other sites. Or stand on the parking level in front a bit of sea spray along the way. Seagulls can be fed from the back of the ferry only. And keep an eye out for the many dolphins that ride the waves around the ferries. This is a must once during the day and once at night trip on every visit to Galveston!

“Worth the wait!”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

We usually 'walk-on' the ferry but decided to drive on this time (new experience for kids).. While the lines look outrageous - they do move quickly. We found a great place to eat in Crystal Beach once we got off (Tikis Bar and Grill) just several miles inland. Awesome - loved it!

The ferry was free and allowed us to see dolphins. We went early so there was no wait to get on- but there was a wait to get off. Plan accordingly.

Following the advice of the other reviewers, we parked our car and walked onto the ferry. We went to the "second floor" and were able to find some shade. There is air conditioning inside the ferry, but the views were much better outside.

We took bread for the birds and it was so much fun to have them vie for our treats, the kids loved it. I wish we had done this again, it was that much fun.
