“Free ferry”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

It was very easy getting to Galveston Island and back to I-10. The workers were very friendly and did check cars before boarding.

“One of the best rides in Galveston and it is FREE”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

When in Galveston for the day you must take the ferry to Port Boliver... It is about a 30 minute ride each way and you will enjoy the salt air and the view. The scenery changes depending on the time of year. Through out the spring and summer you will see beautiful sail boats, large fishing boats and an occasional up close view of a cruise ship. The real treat would be the dolphins. It is very unusual to make either leg of the trip without seeing multiple dolphins swimming along and playing in the boat wakes.

Tip of the day is to park your car (parking is free) and walk onto the Ferry. If you drive on it can take a long time to exit the ferry and get back on. In fact, during the summer months there can be a hour or more wait in line for the return trip.

Bring your own food and drink as there are no concessions on the ferries.

To summarize - nice boat ride, lots to see, most likely see multiple dolphins playing in the water and it is FREE.

“Dolphins galore to be seen”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

Wow, I thought we just got lucky but locals on the boat were saying you always get to see 1 or 2. We managed to see a good 6 or 7 each way!! It was great and on the way back they were leading us out part of the way.
We did hear that the que can take some time, but again we went in the morning and only waited about 30mins. Remember it is free and if you enjoy a nice boat ride, seeing some nice scenery and of course the Dolphins then it will be well worth it, even if like many you just turn round on arrival and go straight back.
Well worth a visit.

“Fun transportation”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

The ferry is the most efficient way to get between Galveston and High Island and since we were staying in one location and birding in the other, we took the ferry several times.

Even if you don't have to get between the two locations, the ferry is a fun 30 minute trip if you don't have a chance to be out on the water much.

We took crackers to feed the gulls off the back of the boat and watched for dolphins each time, but never saw any.

Given that local residents use the ferry for their morning commute and school kids use it to get to school, tourists need to be sharp and not hold up traffic getting on/off or to/from the ferry.

Get ready for close encounters with various birds :) The short ride was quick and efficient and it was even free.
