You need to always ride this ferry, day and at night time. You can walk on OR drive your car. You can get our of your car and walk to the front or back of boat OR walk up the stairs to either inside or outside positions to watch. My favorite is the front of the boat to watch for porpoises. I have ALWAYS seen porpoises!!!!! Once on Bolivar - take a ride and see Bolivar and Crystal Beach. if you are hungry, go eat at Stingaree's - OMG !!!! the sea food was amazing - the fried oysters and fried shrimp were out of this world good.

Good to have a boat ride and not have to leave your car behind and great for sightseeing. Prices can't be beat.

The Bolivar Ferry is a quick free ride across the bay. You will see wildlife along the way usually not observed in nature. On our visit we saw Pelicans and Dolphins. If you are actually going to explore the Crystal beach area take your car otherwise it is much easier to just park on the Galveston side and walk on board. You are welcome to feed the birds from the back of the boat or explore the enclosed upper deck with great views of the bay. I recommend this to anyone visiting Galveston Island.

This is a must when visiting Galveston. We walked on and got a great view of the dolphins that follow the boat.

It was a little scary on the way back when we the boat got stuck in sand for about 15 minutes!

Overall, a must do! For the price, its great!

The ferries were nice and an awesome feature of our Texas Transportation System. However, there needs to be some sort of order to the loading and unloading system. We were one of the first cars to get in line for the ferry. We were told to get in the third line. There were a couple of cars in each line. By the time the ferry got there, lines were backed up as far as I could see. The traffic controller let the first two lines on first, which completely filled the ferry. Needless to say, we were very upset. They were even waving cars that just pulled up on to the ferry and making the other lines stay after some of us have been sitting there for an hour. Some of the ferries were not in operation that day which made the wait worse. We had the same exact problems going to Bolivar and returning to Galveston. Therefore, it wasn't just a simple mistake. Also, we loaded first both times onto the ferries and had to exit last. It was also frustrating watching all of the people get ahead of us that were behind us when we entered. It took us approximately 2 hours each trip and we were at the front of the loading line both times. It was simply because the traffic controllers did not pay any attention to order. The first time across we should have been on the first ferry, and ended up on the third. Very frustrating!!! For example, they should know that if each line is being filled in 15 car increments from lanes1-6 respectively, then that should be the loading order. It is not rocket science!
