Owner description: The Ocean Star is a retired jackup drilling rig that offers a fun, hands on way to learn about the offshore oil and gas industry in a comfortable and accessible facility. The museum features three floors of models, exhibits, equipment and interactive displays illustrating the story of offshore exploration and production. This self guided museum is open seven days a week and offers visitors the unique opportunity to board an actual offshore rig. While ticket sales halt at 4:00 PM, visitors can remain until the site closes at 5:00. Welcome Aboard!

Interesting venue with interactive exhibits and lots of history. The exhibits provide a solid background on the drilling process. Visit starts with watching a film and then you're on your own with the three stories of exhibits. Most of the areas of the deck outside are not accessible so be prepared to spend much of the time inside and the helicopter deck is not open to the public. GPS will bring you to Harborside Drive and if coming from the North, be sure to make a left on 20th Street. Parking requires payment in an antiquated box that is unique and is worth taking a photo of. A dollar bill should cover your visit.

We visited this museum twice in two days. It was extremely educational and well thought out. There are interactive opportunities and a gift shop as well. I learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Having worked on a similar rig, I thought it was a very interesting exhibit. It does a great job of showing exactly what goes on both above and below the water.

My husband and I went for a tour. Wasn't my thing but he found it interesting :)
Not sure I would take smaller children...however if you do...it's roomy and they could run around and stretch...it's not a stuffy place and on a hot day...has good a/c :)

Found this educational and fun. Great for adults and children. Never realized the commitment oil rig workers make for their jobs.
