Owner description: Restored to its turn of the century splendor, the 28,000 square-foot, four-story structure was completed in 1895. Today, our guests visit 20 rooms on a self-guided tour that depicts the home life of a powerful Texas family. The Moodys established one of the great American financial empires. Based on cotton, it grew to include banking, ranching, insurance and hotels. The mansion is one of the finest places to visit, a trip back in time. Touring the museum should definitely be on the top on the list for things to do on Historic Galveston Island. Our guide was very informed about the history-let us ask lots of questions and take our time looking. Beautiful piece of history!

If you want to learn a bit more about Galveston and its history this is a great place to learn. You learn about the people, the businesses the great hurricane and many other things. It is a pleasant escape for a couple of hours.

The Moody Mansion is a beautiful home and worth seeing if you have an hour or two to spare. I do hate to criticize someone who is likely a volunteer, but our tour guide made the whole experience uncomfortable and somewhat miserable. She would be more suited for a prison guard than a museum guide. The second and third stories were beautiful and it was fun to see the ornate rooms and furnishings. Ike wiped out the first floor for the most part, but, oddly, quite a bit of the tour is spent down there.

In interesting stop on any Galveston historical tour. Loved seeing how a classic estate worked, and a fascinating look at one of Texas' most influencial families!!

Our docent Claire conducted an informative and entertaining "one hour" tour in two hours. She offered an opportunity to leave half way through, but all stayed on to learn the history of the Mansion, the Moody family, and Galveston. Fascinating to those who appreciate craftmanship and history.
