Just got back from the worst vacation ever in Galveston at the Hilton. Room was dirty upon arrival with fritos under the bed and dirt in the bathroom. We asked them to re-clean the room and they did, but decided to leave the dirt and fritos. Pool was cloudy and gross. The bartenders at the pool bar ignored us completely, so we actually had to go inside to get drinks in our wet bathing suits. The beach and ocean were covered in seaweed and smelled like dead fish. Oh, and my sister's purse was stolen out of our room and they took two days to question the staff or even let us know what was going on. Save your money and go somewhere else. Or, stay here and get a safe for your money. Enjoy the smell.

We got to The Hilton at about 10:00 at night. Our first impression was bad enough to make us want to cancel our reservation and go to another hotel. The woman who was working the desk acted as if she was privlaging us with her presence and she wasnt happy about it. We thought that perhaps it was just her but all of the desk staff that we saw after that was just as bad. Now the housekeeping and maintance staff really made up for it. There is no way that they could have been any nicer. They really made it look like they enjoyed their jobs. The pool was nice and so were the rooms. For the price and the closeness to the beach we might stay there again. We will know though not to expect to much from the desk staff.

This was a nice and clean hotel. If you go, walk over to the Rainforest Cafe at night on a weekend night and see the volcano errupt. We wish we would have brought our kids because along with the colorful volcano errupting there was alot of other activities for kids like a dj, dancing, face painting, games, etc.

We thought the Hilton would be expensive but if you check the prices of the other hotels then it's about the same or maybe a little more.

We are going back for our third stay this coming June. Our past two stays have been very enjoyable.

The rooms are nice, the facilities, including the pool and restaurants, are above average, the staff is pleasant. What makes this hotel a winner for us is the location. Its right across the street from the beach, and you can walk right across the parking lot to RainForest Cafe, Landrys, and a 24-hour IHop. There's no charge for self-parking--don't know about valet parking, but its really not necessary, the hotel is not that large. What we liked best was not being "trapped" inside a mega resort. You know the type--you pay to have your car valet parked, then walk about 1/2 mile to your room, then if you want to eat you have to make the trek all the way back to the valet, tip the guy, wait, wait, wait, or end up paying the ridiculous prices in the mega resort for the convenience. Its ok if you want to spend your entire vacation inside a hotel, but if you want to see something outside of the place, good luck!

That's what we like so much about the Hilton Galveston. Its a very nice hotel, not a destination resort, but its small enough you can walk to your vehicle in a matter of minutes (great if you forgot something) and be on your way. Also, nice to have a choice of eateries within walking distance. Somehow, they seem to know they have competition for the eateries--the ones in the hotel are quite reasonably priced. Otherwise, they'd lose all their business to IHop!

The pool is quite nice, just wish it was a little bigger with waterfalls, etc. for my kids. But we spend much of our time at the beach or Palm Beach, anyways. Plus, you can't beat the price we got this time--free! We're cashing in some Hilton Honors points and have exactly enough for five nights. Can't beat that!

My husband and I stayed at the Hilton for a weekend. We elected to fly in and use the shuttle service instead of getting a car. It worked out well since it was not a busy weekend and the hotel staff cheerfully shuttled us all over the place and picked us up when we needed it. I would not do this during peak season as they told us it would be a problem. Our room and the pool were fine. The gym as they call it was not a gym. It has about two dumbells and a bike. Fortunately you can go next door to the sister hotel the San Luis and use their much nicer workout facility. I think there is a charge to do it, but nobody ever asked who we were so it did not get charged to us.

We stayed there for a long weekend while visiting with friends. Perfect location near restaurants and quick drive to The Strand. Stayed in an older room ($99) and for the rate the room was just fine, typical of most hotel rooms. Our friends stayed in the new rooms ($150) had an ocean view, down comforter and upgraded furnishings, so your choice. Hotel staff was friendly, skip the hotel buffet with slim pickings and hit the IHOP next door!
