“Great place to stay if you don't pay full price!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

We just got back from our usual once or twice per summer stay at the Hilton Galveston Island resort, and as usual, it did not disappoint.
We are from the Houston area, so this hotel is a great little getaway for our family of 4, just a little over an hour away from home.
First let me say, we would never pay the weekend rates I see advertised, because that's just crazy! We always stay during the week when the rates are less than $200/night. We would never ever pay over $400/night! So, for the price we pay, it's difficult to be disappointed. There are some nasty hotels in the area that have the audacity to charge the same price as Hilton, and that's just a joke (e.g. LaQuinta seawall west - yuck!)
The Hilton's location is ideal, because you can set up around the pool and go back & forth all day between the resort style pool with swim-up bar and the ocean, which is directly across the street.
The beach there is nothing fancy, but it's so easy you don't have to be picky. We parked our car in the lot for free and kept our larger cooler in the trunk. All we needed for the pool was our shades & sunscreen, because the hotel provides towels. When you're ready to cross the street to the beach, just take a towel and a smaller cooler with you.
There are lifeguards at the beach who do a great job. The hotel employees are super friendly around the pool and at the swim-up bar. We ordered sodas and got free refills all day! What a deal!
There are covered cabanas with TVs at the pool for rent, and there's even a kids activity tent, which looked like a good idea for those with young ones. The pool is a good size, and there's also a hot tub and dry sauna out there.
The rooms are nothing fancy, but the beds are comfortable. If you want ocean-view straight on you won't have a balcony. If you want a balcony, that part of the hotel faces perpendicular to the ocean, so it'll be a side-view.
For breakfast, there's a restaurant with $14 buffet or you can order off the menu. There's supposed to be free coffee in the lobby, but they don't keep it filled very well, so don't depend on it. Use the coffee maker in your room. Next door at the San Luis resort you have IHOP, Landry's seafood & the Rainforest Cafe. Or if you want huge portions of affordable, fresh fried catfish and shrimp that'll make you want to slap your mama, go to 39th st and ave. O 1/2 to Shrimp N Stuff - OMG!! Wow Wow Wow!
Something new to Galveston is that they are now charging for Seawall parking, so be prepared to pay $8/day with your smartphone or go ahead & buy the annual pass for $25 I believe. But if you're staying at the Hilton or the San Luis, parking is free & they give you a card for the car. Another good thing is, if you're staying at the Hilton, you have access to the spa and workout facilities at the San Luis resort as well. Our teen sons enjoyed the workout equipment.
We all had a great time hanging out around the pool for a couple of days, and we can't wait to return. This hotel is our go-to place in Galveston when the price is right.

FOR CRUISERS, I don't know if they provide transportation to or from the cruise terminal or not, but this would be a nice place to stay before or after a cruise. It's only 4 miles from the cruise terminal, which is on Harborside dr. From the hotel, you just take seawall east, left on 25th street, straight to Harborside and the cruise terminal. Easy! Take your own car or call a cab.

Room Tip: Ocean view facing the ocean has no balcony. Ocean view with balcony will be sideways, since that tow...

First, the most basic feature: Wireless Internet is NOT included and you have to pay extra for this. Petty perhaps, but this has become standard in any place I have been to so much so that I don't even think to ask, the room, was plain and simple, and also small I had a "deluxe king gulf view " in the towers not what I expected, very little deluxe about it. Room service was offered but selections were minimal, pool bar was over run with children , hot tub as well, not common places where I expected to find children. For 180 per night I would go elsewhere (moody gardens, san Luis) where you get what you pay for. This "four diamond hotel" did not live up to it.

We stayed for four nights and had a really nice time. The hotel is a nice property. The pool is very clean and the kids had fun every day. We utilized the pool, pool bar, gym and business center. The staff was great. Everyone we encountered was very friendly and always asking if they could help make our stay better. We had an ocean view room with two doubles. Plenty of room and a great view.

The location is great - just across the street from the seawall, next door to several restaurants with a Kroger on the other side.

My only complaint is about the "extras" that would really make this a resort style property.
- the coffee in the lobby ran out each morning and the restaurant staff seemed hesitant to refill it. One lady told us that the decaf carafe was actually regular and we should just drink that.
- the carpets in the hallways weren't the cleanest.
- this is one of the only resorts I have stayed where you have to pay for wifi - even in the business center. The staff said it was free in the lobby, but it wasn't. (the staff tried to help us, but couldn't get it to work)
- It would be nice to have the flavored water in the lobby in the afternoons that most other Hiltons provide.

Overall, a nice property and we would stay here again.

We have stayed at many places in Galveston over the years but had not stayed at this Hilton before. We were treated VERY well, our room was lovely, pool was great, and we were close to the beach. Overall a fabulous stay!!

I utilized many of the services offered on the property from the bar, restaurant, pool, gym, to the valet parking. Everyone on staff that my wife and I encountered was friendly and helpful.

The valet parking was quick and worth far more than the $10.00 fee.

The bar and restaurant both did not disappoint, and the gym was useful and the pool and hot tub were nice.

Best of all, the beach is right across the street!

We stayed at the Hilton in Galveston prior to a Caribbean cruise in January. We were early and our room was not quite ready, so we sat in the bar and had an incredible Kahlua coffee. Our room was on the 5th floor with a fantastic Gulf view. Comfortable beds, good TV. On Sunday morning, we had breakfast in the hotel's restaurant and it was excellent.

Room Tip: Try for an ocean view. The hotel is far enough off Seawall to keep the noise level down and the view...
