They've done such a nice job restoring this hotel, it's worth staying here just to experience a taste of how travelers to Galveston would have stayed a century ago. Because of it's age the rooms are smaller, and the bathrooms are sandwiched in. There also are not an abundance of balconies looking out onto the Gulf. However if you stay at the Galvez you'll enjoy great service, and can immerse yourself in the history of the property. Download the app and go on the walking tour and listen to the ghost stories as you walk around the building. You'll be glad you did because the history combined the walking through the property today really gives you insight into how people traveled a century ago and how they spent their time while there. You can dine in the same spot as where the original restaurant sat, or go sit on the same veranda. The pool is heated to 82 degrees but felt cold on this chilly night. Don't miss the Hall of History in the basement of the hotel featuring interesting displays and artifacts.

Room Tip: Get a room that faces the Gulf of Mexico

We stayed at the Galvez prior to our cruise. The check in was easy, bar staff was amazing. Very good drinks, breakfast the next morning was awesome. We all did the buffet. The shuttle to the port was crowded and hot but quick. The return trip was nice. They temporarily lost my truck key but all in all I can’t wait to stay there again! Beds were extremely comfortable.. you could smell it was Clorox clean too.

My wife and I chose the Hotel Galvez for our wedding anniversary this year and could not have wished for a more pleasurable experience. The grandeur of the hotel and the care of the staff did not disappoint in the slightest. In fact, Ms Melissa greeted us at the front desk and throughout our stay she made us feel so special and cared for. The Galvez has always held a special place in our hearts since it was a destination for our families throughout the 80’s. Yet, our last experiences at the hotel in the 90’s were not so pleasurable, and we’d opted for other destinations up to this point. We took a chance and change and to our excitement loved our stay so much, we drove nearly 2 hours one way to pick up our kids and bring them for a night’s stay to build memories of their own as our families did for us.

To all of the staff and especially Ms Melissa, we thank you so very much for a wonderful experience and wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

The hotel is full of history and has an interesting museum on the bottom floor. The bar is beautiful and elegant and its a great place to have a nightcap while checking out the display of pictures and stories from decades ago. The pool is clean and I had great pool service from Emily. Food is wonderful. The hotel is right across from the beach and in walking distance to everything.

We decided to give this hotel a try prior to our cruise. Pluses were: the staff at the hotel were all very nice and accomodating. The breakfast buffet is nice. The rooms are appointed nicely but with that said, not very detailed in cleaning. There was a lot of dust build up and bathroom, although lovely to look at, not very clean and the sinks did not drain on our visit. Our room also faced the main drag towards the beach. Lovely view but very loud. I suppose the ear plugs were there for a reason. The beds, however, were super comfortable. It was a plus that we could leave our car there without charge while we cruised. We usually stay Harbor side and pretty sure we will go back to that. All the restaurants we enjoy are in that area and the port is much closer. All in all, not really worth the hype.
