We got married at the Galvez in September 2009. We love the Galvez, especially the architecture and decor.
Wedding: Absolutely perfect! Cannot think of a single negative aspect. Everything went as planned, the catering manager and chef were great to work with as were all the people working the night of our wedding.
Room: Our suite was very nice, decorated tastefully, very spacious, nice views, quiet. No complains
Service: Awesome... Reception, Bar, Pool, Catering Manager etc were professional and friendly.
Food: Very good. We ate lunch at the pool and had the Sunday Brunch and all was good. The food served at our wedding was amazing.
Pool: Great! We like it much better then the partying pool down the street.
Fitness Center: Really good - above average for hotels.

All in all, we love the Galvez and plan on going back soon. It's a little pricey but well worth it.

My husband and I stayed at The Hotel Galvez in Galveston, Texas for one week in mid-September. We were given a beautiful, large room on the 6th floor, facing the Gulf of Mexico. It had a full sofa, big screen TV, brand new decor, and a huge shower. The entire staff of the hotel went out of their way to see that we were happy, and that all of our needs were met. It is a beautiful hotel and we were very comfortable the whole week we were there. The restaurant, Bernando's, has excellent food and service; whether you dine in the restaurant, or order from room service. The swimming pool was beautiful, and the hot tub was nice & hot. We felt like celebrities with all the attention we got. We didn't want to leave! Thanks again Jim! (General Manager). We will never forget our experience at The Hotel Galvez.

Thanks to everyone at the Hotel Galvez for making our getaway weekend a true delight. Every staff member was helpful and friendly. The newly renovated 6th floor was so comfortable. The decor is calming and we enjoyed the large shower in the bathroom. The new hotel spa is beautiful and the services were excellent. We think Hotel Galvez has the potential to be a great spa destination. What a beautiful historic hotel!

We enjoyed our stay with two grandchildren. The breakfast buffett could have been cheaper, but for the price of the room (priceline.com) we feel like we had a great experience. We parked behind the hotel and it was a walk across the street and the elevator was right there to the right. Very convenient.

We've stayed here several times, the most recent being earlier this month. I'm always so happy with the stay. The place is BEAUTIFUL, has a great location (directly across from the seawall, with a light on the corner from which to cross), fabulous landscaping, relaxing pool, free and convenient parking, etc., etc., etc.

We have used Priceline to secure rooms at the Galvez each of the times we've stayed there. By doing so, you can get a rate of about $120 a night. You know Priceline though, it's the luck of the draw. One time we ended up at the Tremont House (also Wyndam) which was equally as nice but lacked some of the convenience of the Galvez.

We travelled with 2 children, ages 6 and 4 and had no complaints whatsoever about the size of our room. There was plenty of room for the kids, the ironing board set up, all of our beach stuff, luggage, etc. From reading some of the other reviews, I can only surmise that there must be different sized rooms. We requested the standard room with two beds, which it had. Also there was a desk with chair, a bureau with TV, a nightstand between the two beds, fold open luggage rack, floor lamp, and a small "bar" near the door with a coffee maker/ice bucket and cups.

Skip the expensive breakfast at the hotel and instead turn left out of the hotel and head to Millers Landing (or Millers Cafe) for a great, reasonably priced breakfast. It's within walking distance.

I definitely recommend the Galvez, especially if there's a deal to be found on the cost of the room.

Stayed last week in the middle of the week, just for a quick getaway and we got a deal on Orbitz. We figured to give it a try. Self parking was easy and free. Our a/c was out (only cooling to 78-80 degrees). Enigneering was up there in a hurry and did what they could around 9 pm at night. They also put a box fan in but this just managed to keep my one and a half year old up most of the night. Front desk would not or did not show much intrest in relocationg us. The next morning I went down to the lobby and E-mailed Jim the GM and within 5 minutes Michelle the manager was standing in fornt of me. She promptly took care of my room charge and offered anything else she could. Case and point for all those out there- before you write a review, give management a chance to fix it. I was happy with the results. This is a "historic" hotel, so be sure you understand the things that all come along with that- like smaller rooms. The pool area was nice and up against the San Luis, the breakfast buffet had them beat hands down. Again, my personal thanks to Jim and Michelle for trying to accomodate me in this unfortunate situation. Their attitude is what really sets them apart from the others in Galveston.

Booked at the Harbour House - got there and they had overbooked so they put us up on the Galvez for free. What a deal! It is a beautiful location and I really enjoyed the accomodations. Beautiful room, gorgeous view, lovely facility, first class place! (Nice pool, too!)
