Spent Friday night on 5th floor in two double-bed room with four of us. Room was very nice and window had great view of pool and beach/seawall. We retired to room after a walking ghost tour on The Strand. Our 18 yr old son was in bathroom washing up and bathroom lights mysteriously turned off - perfect and reason for staying on 5th floor!

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your family getaway in Galveston and stay at Hotel Galvez & Spa. We hope that you enjoyed your ghost tour on The Strand. It's very popular and includes a bit on our sister hotel - The Tremont House. By the way, your son may be interested in our free tour app for smartphones. We offer a free 25-minute history and 20-minute ghost tour. Just search your app store for Hotel Galvez. Thanks and we look forward to seeing you in October for our ghost tour dinners!

Recently stayed 3 nights in an Ocean View room at this wonderful historical property prior to a 7 day cruise from Galveston. Food was great, the spa and pool area exceptional and the service was to be commended. The rooms were very well appointed and every need was catered for. "Ghost Tour" is a must and the recorded history of past famous patrons was a special experience for me. The hotel is close to all amenities and attractions. It has a lovely gardens and the beautiful architecture has been faithfully preserved over the years. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: Ocean View Rooms a must.

While I was very excited for a quick mother/daughter trip with friends t to this hotel based on their Mobile Diamond ratings and reviews, I was actually quite disappointed. But, to start with the positive: 1. Walking distance to Pleasure Pier - may not be important to you but, was great with teens/tweens 2. Pool and swim up bar are fantastic - great drink menu, misting fans and a lovely tropical atmosphere. Those 2 things are about the best I can say... The not so good: 1. Room - the bathroom was so outdated and had barely any ventilation/fan. Bathtub had moldy caulk, ridiculously old fixtures and the shower head sprayed water everywhere. Their showers are so bad there is a sign on the interior shower wall telling you to put both curtains in the tub when taking a shower (not sure why because water STILL sprayed everywhere and the curtain kept sucking inward onto my body) 2. Service at the pool - while beautiful, the wait staff was scarce to stop over and ask if they could get anything for you - and I saw at least 4 servers but, only one side of the pool seemed to be getting any service. We gave up and swam over to the bar - where most of the servers appeared to be hanging out and having a great time... 3. Biggest issue I have with this hotel - we put the "DO NOT DISTURB" sign on the door, bolted it and also used the secondary lock. At 9:30AM the next morning the maid was knocking on the door and attempting to open it. I told her to come back later and asked her if she could see the sign on the door (this was a face to face encounter) - she basically ignored me (yes, she spoke English) Shortly thereafter, my friend took some items to the car - same DO NOT DISTURB on the door. When the next maid (a guy) saw her leave, he took it upon himself to just unlock the door and walk right in (less than 3 minutes after she walked out). His excuse - he said he saw someone leave with a suitcase. I asked him as well if he could see/read the sign on the door - barely an apology - don't think he knew what to do because he obviously had not followed protocol for entering a room. No less than 20 minutes later, the same "first" maid was standing outside of the door having a conversation with the second maid asking if we had left yet - I could CLEARLY hear the conversation and did have to say "go away - check out is at noon and do not come back". While this may seem petty to some, let's go back to the Mobil Diamond rating... this hotel now felt like a cheap hotel trying to turn rooms around to quickly fill them again. The element of sophistication of this hotel was quickly diminished by having employees who act like they are servicing an interstate roadside hotel. After having stayed in luxury properties known for their service, this hotel was a great disappointment. Certainly not what you would expect out of the this property based on just how it looks along with some of its reviews/ratings. I did speak with the front desk staff member when departing - Jeremiah - about the maid issue and he said he would bring it up to the appropriate parties. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen but, for the Hotel Galvez management - this was room 452 on Wednesday, July 9. I am the secondary name on the room and paid the bill. Come to think of it, I have had better service at interstate road side hotels....

Too expensive, even for a historic site. Rooms are very small. The website room is not indicative of the average room the customer gets for $400+ with tax for a couple.
