I stayed at the hotel over the smaller Mardi Gras weekend. When I checked in I was given a handicapped room. I called to let them know I didn't need handicap access, and they said all the rooms were like the one I was in (I know they are not).
Enjoyed a nice drink at the bar a good breakfast in the morning and thought, well I won't judge the hotel on the front desk person not being truthful.
I went to the valet to get my car. After waiting 5-10 minutes, a family came out complaining very loudly about the hotel service and got extremely mad when they found their car had been valet parked when they said they were just checking on a rate. Long story end, their car was brought before mine. LAST STRAW. Unless it is an off the chart low price, I will not consider staying at this hotel when other offer so much better of a customer service experience.

We are sorry to hear about the issues that you mentioned during your stay. Mardi Gras was a very busy time at the hotel so there must have been a little confusion at valet, which isn't an excuse. We will make sure that our front desk managers and valet staff are aware of your concerns. And, thank you for sharing your feedback.

I stayed 3 nights at the Galvex over Mardi Gras week end. Saturday evening following the parade we returned to the hotel around 9:45pm. There were12 of us at the lobby bar. We were the only people at the bar with the exception of a table of 3 and 2 people people at the bar. The place was empty. The evening had been very festive due to the Mardi Gras. One of the gentlemen in our group had an acoustical guitar and began to play. The piped in music was very loud and we were considering asking to have the volume lowered. Much to our dismay and surprise Jose the manager rushed over telling the guitarist to cease! The guitar music was lovely, romantic and soft. I was hoping that since we all were staying at the hotel they would offer a banquet room for us to listen to the guitar music. Jose the manager did not offer an alternate location but rather called in the police! They also told us that it was last call. We had ordered one cocktail when we arrived and now it was not even 11pm and we were being told that it was last call! Talk about throwing a wet blanket on a fun week end! I have never experienced such rude treatment! I will never return to the Galvex and have doubts about staying at any of their affiliates. Galveston needs a Four Season's or a Ritz Carlton. These are hotels that know how to make a guest enjoy their vacation. Jose needs to take some lessons in how his clientele should be treated.

We would like to thank you for choosing to stay at the hotel during Mardi Gras. We are familiar with the issue that you mentioned. We are sorry that you were not aware that your krewe had access to the entire seventh floor which includes a billiard area and VIP lounge. According to staff, at the time when the group ventured to the bar with a guitarist playing, it was approaching time for the bar to close and we were serving other guests. It was reported that the impromptu guitar playing was disruptive and we received complaints from other guests. The policy of the hotel is that guests are allowed in the lobby as long as they are respectful of other guests. The seventh floor VIP area would have been a more appropriate venue for this gathering. Thanks.

Myself and kids had a last minute getaway to Galveston for Spring Break 2014. The hotel is lovely and the staff was great. Our room was a little on the small side & did not have a mini refrigerator (with younger kids or just wanting to keep something cold), however we did have a ocean view and that was fantastic. The pool is wonderful and all the amenities. Overall it was a very nice getaway, the history of the Hotel Galvez is fascinating.

Room Tip: Ask for a larger room if available.

Our room was small but adequate. The lighting was not good, but we did get a larger bulb for the reading lamp. Breakfast was nicely prepared and delicious.

Would have appreciated free coffee in the lobby as that is the Best Place to sit and visit...was suggested I bring it from my room...
