“Nice Hotel”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

First off, we had trouble booking a room for just one night. The website and subsequent phone call to the hotel confirmed that there was a two night minimum.I was told I could put my name on a list and they'd call if Saturday opened up. I called back a week later to get an update and was told that this isn't really a list but he'd jot down my number and pass it on to the next shift in case something did open up.
The Thursday before, I called again and was told there were no openings for Saturday. The wife and decided we would just go for Sunday night instead so we went online to make reservations. I checked for the Saturday night just to compare to the Sunday night rate and to our surprise was allowed to book Saturday night only, which we did.
Check-in is 4pm but we got to Galveston around 10:30am. We called to request and early check-in and was told it would not be a problem because there were plenty of rooms available.
If there were so many rooms available, why was it so difficult to reserve a single night??

The hotel itself is very nice, as were the employees. The room was a bit small, but very clean. We ordered room service which was pretty good, delivered quickly and reasonably priced. The pool area was really nice which a swim-up bar and hot tub. The hotel is right across the street from the beach and about a 30 minute walk from The Strand district.

Other than making reservations, my only compliant was with the valet. Although the price was reasonable ($17, I think) and the service was quick, there were a few things out of place. The touch-screen was on the screen where you change the treble, bass, left, right, etc. (I understand if the valet wants to change stations, but there's no need to be messing with the sound). Also, the sunglass holder was down, which only implies the valet was digging through our stuff. Nothing was missing, but we didn't have anything worth taking either.

Overall, the hotel was nice. If we go back to Galveston, we'd probably stay at a different hotel but that's just because we like to change it up. I would recommend Hotel Galvez, just be weary of valet parking.

stayed here in october for a nice girls weekend. the pool was beautiful with a swim up bar (not always open but it was out of season), the drinks were tasty and strong.

great location just across the street from the beach. the rooms are small but clean, classic and functional. did have a mirror fall off of the wall the last day we were there. the hotel is very old and beautiful with tall ceilings and grand views and beautiful grounds.

there were numerous weddings going on so it was loud at night rather late and this could easily be heard in the rooms.

parking is in a gated garage across a side street (very short walk).

overall a nice historic hotel that can be a bit loud (even off season).

Room Tip: try to get a room that overlooks the gulf (a bit more but a nicer view). also go higher up if you ca...

Thank you for choosing Hotel Galvez & Spa for your girls weekend. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the pool. It is heated but during the fall, it's not always staffed. The good news is that if you return in the spring and summer, the poolside bar and grill are open seven days/week (weather permitting). We hope that you stay with us again soon.

My husband and I went to Galveston to stay two nights before boarding a cruise ship. We had reservations at Hotel Galvez. My husband asked the hotel manager if we could have an ocean view room, as we were celebrating our 40th anniversary. The hotel manage upgraded us to an awesome suite at the very top floor of the hotel...compliments of Hotel Galvez! The suite itself was beautiful with a spectacular shower and very comfy bed. There were two huge flatscreen televisions and we even had free bottled water every day! Thankyou for the wonderful anniversary gift! We will be back!! Also, for future cruisers, you can park your car at the hotel's covered/gated parking garage the entire week you are cruising for FREE!! GREAT stay!!

I recently stayed at the Hotel Galvez the night before our Cruise out of Galveston. This hotel is really beautiful and you can see and feel the history while staying there. The location is wonderful, right on the beach and great views from our room. I wish it was a warmer time of year because their pool looked very nice. There are restaurants within walking distance and the hotel has a town car that will take you wherever you would like to go within about a 3 mile radius at no cost. We used the car a couple of times during our stay and the drivers were so friendly and helpful and even pointed out sites as we drove. To come home you simply call the hotel and they will send the car to pick you up wherever you are.

We arrived hours before the 4pm check in but the very friendly front desk staff told us we would not have to wait that long and called us as soon as our room was ready (about 30 minutes later). The rooms are on the small side but that is what I would expect from a historical hotel like this. Our room was very clean and comfortable but I think if you tried to have more than two people in a room you would find yourselves tripping all over each other. My only complaint was with our bathroom, it was very clean and had really nice toiletries provided but our shower curtain was really thin and kept flying around and sticking to me, nothing major. I would not hesitate to stay here again the next time I find myself in Galveston, it was a great experience.

Thank you for posting such a thorough review on your stay at Hotel Galvez & Spa. We are pleased that you took advantage of the TownCar. For your information, the hotel offers a courtesy shuttle between its sister properties (The Tremont House located in The Strand District and Harbor House located at Pier 21). It makes it very convenient for guests to see other major hot spots in Galveston without worrying about parking. Although, Spring Break is a little chilly we keep our pool heated to 80 degrees year-round so don't let the cold weather keep you from enjoying the pool. We appreciate your insight and we look forward to your next visit.
