“Relaxation station”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 19, 2012

I have visited the Galvez 3 times in 2 years, and I am always sad when it is time to go. From the time you walk in to the grand lobby, you are treated like a prince. My wife loves the breakfast buffet which is pricey but has a full selection of everything. Sunday Brunch is legendary here, with a menu of everything you can think of topped off by mimosa and desserts to die for. It's also pricey, but it's an experience I won't forget. I love the history. The basement is like a museum of the islands past, don't miss it. You can find out stuff about Galveston you won't find anywhere else. On to the pool which is absolutely fantastic! It is 1st class with a swim-up bar, plenty of lounge chairs and eager wait staff who were prompt with pool side eats and drinks. The rooms can be a little smallish (this is a historic hotel) but are clean and comfortable. OR, you can pay a little more and get a 'spa' room which are huge. Also complementary with a room are bikes you can take for a ride up and down the seawall. Make sure you get out early or they will run out of bikes. I could go on and on. We travel from DFW and my wife doesn't like to fly, so this is mine and her's little slice of paradise. I can't wait to return.

Room Tip: A room facing the gulf is always a good choice

Well, what can I say that has not already been said.
This is a fine hotel but a little too pricey really. The pool is very, very nice.
The shuttle service from the cruise port was excellent and the driver did well loading and unloading some of those heavy siutcases.
The free limosine service was a nice plus except when we called for a return pickup the car had not shown up after more than half an hour and upon calling the hotel again to find out where the car was the girl that answered the phone was quite obnoxious but the car finally arrived after a further 10 minutes or so.

Whenever I visit Galveston, Texas I stay at the historic Hotel Galvez (100 years old in 2011). This hotel is the classiest place in Galveston. The rates are reasonable, they have a heated pool with bar, hot tub, a hotel ghost, great restaurant, spa, and the Gulf is across the street.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a water view.

During Thanksgiving week Galveston was blessed with balmy weather, and I spent most of one day floating in the gorgeous salt-water pool. Then I played petanque outside on the clay-type walkway bordering a trellised area used for weddings. The double room overlooked the Gulf, and it reminded me of San Diego. The landscaping is remarkable. The room was flawless; the sheets were professionally laundered 240 thread-count percale, like the nice rooms in Europe ( but some unpressed sheets were used also.) There are many places to sit with entirely different moods. The lobby on Saturday night was electric with happy families enjoying overstuffed sofas in the grand lobby. I can't wait to return!

Room Tip: The view towards the Gulf is worth a request.

Make sure Mr Hilton takes you on a tour of this hotel. It was a real joy to spend several hours with this gentleman as he explained to us all about the owners before Wyndham - when Galveston was in it's heyday. Thank You Mr Hilton - a truly memorable experience.
