“Stately w/ Superb Customer Service. Gr8 Pool & Spa.”
Reviewed May 10, 2012

Staff was very friendly, well dressed, and professional. The service is impeccable here! Awesome place for a wedding or vacation. The hotel is stately, old, & beautiful. Furniture in the dining rooms/ballrooms could use some work. The pool area was gorgeous!! Great place to hang out! Has the best rated spa on Galveston, a restaurant, and a store inside. The small lobby bar is from the 1800’s. It’s a very old, historic property with ballrooms and corridors that bring you back in time. They have a museum on the lower level—a must see for history buffs. The remodled rooms are clean & comfy. It is a stately hotel w/ a professional, airy, historic appeal. Very classy w/ very classy service.

Room Tip: Views of the bay, of course.

Our stay here was perfect from the moment we drove up to the hotel The valet personnel were so friendly as were the ohers who helped us with our luggage. Lora especially was so much fun a we kidded with her all the way up to the room. The hotel has so much history to it and in the basement of the hotel they have historical pictures about the hotel and Galveston itself. We were lucky enough to run into Bobbie who was givng a short tour explaining the history. He was born in 1933 and lived through much of it. He was so enthusiastic as he went through each picture or memento describing things in detail as though he were reliving each event. We learned things about Galveston we never knew before. He alone makes this hotel worth staying at. We missed the Sunday buffet which I hear is fabulous but we did eat breakfast here twice and it was great food. Caser made me an omelet and while it was cooking I asked him for some tips on good restaurants nearby and he put us on to his favorite Mexican restaurant - The authentic Mexican Cafe - we tried it and really liked it. We spent time at the outdoor bar/pool and it is simply exquisite. Caitlyn was exceptional as a barmaid as we downed our frozen margaitas, pina coladas, and beers and enjoyed a relaxing day by he pool. Debbie got a 50 minute massage at the Spa given to her by Pam and it she told me it was absolutely the best massage she had ever had in her entire life. We needed a get away and we couldn't have picked a more prefect place. Even the head of security, David, stopped by to talk to us as we were sitting by the pool to tell us we were sitting in a very famous spot as that was where Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt used to sit on their visits here. He then took the time to give us even more history of the place. It was just so enjoyable. The Galvez is elegant and it is close to everything. We highly recommend it and plan on going back.

Room Tip: They say room 501 is haunted an it's the most popular room to rent. We had a room overlooking t...

Staff was very friendly and the hotel is beautiful. The pool area was gorgeous but they had the services (like pool bar) closed early. The museum downstairs is informative.

We had a great stay. I had a trailer with scooters on it and they were very accomodating by allowing us to use a seperate parking area. We rode their lowner bicycles down to the Strand for lunch, that was great. Our bartender George in the Lobby bar was very friendly and took great care of us. The pool was very nice and clean, bartenders super busy on a Saturday. It had great lounge areas. Our room was small but we didnt spend a lot of time in it so it was fine for us. I wanted to get a picture from our room window of the sea but the sea and sand had caused such a film on the window that it was very hazy, and you couldn't see out very well at all. Awesome place for a wedding or vacation. All of the staff was very friendly, well dressed, and professional.

Room Tip: The windows are very small in my opinion, next time we will save the money and get a city view inste...

Thank you for your review and for mentioning George. I will be sure to recognize him. Sorry about the windows - usually the rain helps clean off the salt in between cleanings but the lack of rain is affecting us this year. Windows are washed several times a year and will be cleaned again before Memorial Day. Glad you enjoyed your stay and please come back.

My husband and I stayed here for the weekend. We had a wonderful time. With the spa, restaurant, and store just steps away; what more could you ask for? The pool area is awesome and provides lots of shade. My only complaint would be that the rooms are very small. However, they have been nicely remodeled.

Glad you enjoyed your stay and our pool and spa. Our spa has been voted Best on the Island and our pool has recently been upgraded and is the perfect place to spend the day. Yes, the rooms are on the small side as is common in historic hotels but they have all been renovated. Please come back soon.

My husband & I spent the first night of a 10 day vacation at th Galvez. What a great introduction to the Gulf of Mexico. The staff were gracious, our room lovely and the pool inviting. We did the basement tour and Bobby provides detailed information. We loved our time there and plan to return soon

We spent 8 nights in the Hotel Galvez and we did not regret a minute. The hotel is beautiful and charming in great location. Rooms are very small, but we didn`t care as we spent most of the time by an awesome hotel pool. We really liked the outdoor furniture, very comfortable and seems new.
The breakfasts are delicious and buffet breakfast even better. Dinner is bit pricy for what you get, but the spinach salad is a must try - we had it 4 times. The staff is extremely attentive and friendly. They were all so excellent!! The only think we did not like was AC, there is sooo cold in the hotel lobby! No way you could wear dress for dinner.
Internet connection was incredibly fast. We would not change it for other place.
