“Not going back!”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

Red Snapper Inn, once a nice place with good food, that has declined in the quality of food, price value and still same dated cheesy décor and plastic table cloths that has been there for many, many years. I could get past the dated dingy dining area if the food was better and the prices were reasonable for the quality. But for $25 to $30 a head, I don’t think so. The Fried calamari was very chewy and came nothing close to being tasty. The oysters were over breaded to cover for the small size. The customer service is lacking.

“Excellent grilled fish!”
Reviewed April 16, 2013 via mobile

Nice restaurant with good staff. The grilled fish was great, so I went back for more a second night. The red snapper was better than the flounder, but both were excellent and nicely grilled. My wife ordered a 14 ounce, charbroiled ribeye, which was delicious and only $20, a rear bargain. Really good food here!

“Homemade and fresh”
Reviewed April 12, 2013 via mobile

Lived in the area six years and went for the first time. Gwen recommended a few things and we tried them all. Excellent fresh fish and homemade salad dressings. Fresh is what I would call it. Had the red snapper Alfredo with crab stuffed peppers. Husband had the crab cakes end calamari. Not a fishy smell in the place. I wish I'd had space for the homemade four layer cake.

“Just OK - some dishes better than others”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

There aren't a lot of dining choices in Surfside and the Red Snapper appeared to be the best. It is a casual fish house trying to serve fancier food and charging higher prices for it. I ordered the charbroiled shrimp, which the waitress told me was seasoned with oil and oregano. For $16.95 I got six shrimp that seemed to have been tossed in a breadcrumb mixture then placed on the grill. It gave them a strange texture and taste. The vegetable of the day was green peas from the freezer -- really?! My husband (who is from New Orleans) got the Snapper Pontchartrain, which for $18.95 was a bit bland. The potato cake that came with it was flavorless. The best dish of the meal was the fried shrimp from the kids' menu. For $6.95 my daughter got four butterflied shrimp that were fried to perfection. It came with "home fries," which were actually homemade potato chips. These were delicious but they shouldn't be called home fries.
I must note that a fresh house salad and choice of side dish is included with each entree. If you choose the baked potato as your side, it comes with a lazy Susan of big containers of fresh toppings like bacon, cheddar, green onions and sour cream. There must have been 4-6 oz of each topping. Either they're reusing the toppings or they're having to charge more to pay for these.
I might return but I would stick with the fried entrees next time. Service was great on a busy Saturday night and all the staff was friendly.

“Sea Food Delight”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

They had some special menu items and the quality and quantity were very filling if you left hungry it was your own fault. For a small restaurant they sure knew how to make food.
