The Magnolia House exceeded our expectations in every way. A delightful home just blocks from Main Street, Magnolia House was an exquisite interlude for my wife and I. Owners Claude and Lisa Saunders were the perfect hosts. No, hosts is not the right word..."Friends you can't wait to see again" would be a more appropriate expression. From the sumptious homemade breakfasts to the impeccable decor, Magnolia House is THE bed and breakfaxt to book for visiting the quaint town of Fredericksburg, Texas, deep in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. Our stay in the Bluebonnet Suite immediately necessitated planning for our next visit! From the afternoon wine in the common room/ and or garden patio to the fresh baked treats to the heavenly sheets on the beds, no detail is missed. Our only sadness was when we had to leave! I heartily recommend Magnolia House to all those who want to experience true bed and breakfast hospitality.

My wife recently retired and her boss gave her a gift certificate to Bedandbreakfast.com and the web site covered B&Bs all over the US, but we had wanted to spend some time in Fredericksburg seeing some newer sights, and we are very glad we did. The Magnolia House has an antique flavor to it that adds to the experience. Claude and Lisa were very gracious hosts. They explained some of the history of the house and then explained some of the extras that they had available. Don't forget to spend some time by the fountain. It has a very calming effect on us, for the small amount of time spent there and it was beautiful.

I tend to look for reviews when I do something new and this was among the highest rated B&B in Fredericksburg, but what made me choose them was the number of reviewers on TripAdvisor, (approximately 10 times the number of reviews of the closest competitor, if I remember correctly) and it was obvious that the people staying there were all treated special.

The house was exceptionally clean. We also stayed in the room upstairs with the separate bathroom and we did not mind at all. We did crash an annual reunion of a group that had stayed there in the past, and they have all started coming back as a group. But we were welcomed into the group and we could not have asked for a better group of people to share a B&B with. The property includes a host of games, books, and DVDs but we mostly used the WiFi to connect with Netflix, and it was as good as home to us.

I have no problems recommending this to anyone. The hosts share information they have on restaurants, attractions, or other general information and they genuinely want to show you a good time during your stay. The food was good and the companionship with other guests was great.

I would also highly recommend the living history program of the Nimitz museum. The tickets to the museum are separate from the living history program (located one street behind Main and two blocks east), and the cost is $7.50 but you can save several dollars on each ticket by buying the ticket online. They demonstrate some of the weapons that the Japanese used against us and how each enemy combatant was generally equipped, and then they do the same with weapons all the way up to 50 Cal., including a real life military flame thrower. As part of the display, they enact a short battle with all of these weapons in use, including the flame thrower. The entire battle took about 5 minutes but it was all very enjoyable.

My wife and I stayed in the Lilli Marleen Room for her birthday weekend (3/1) and the whole stay was wonderful. We were greeted by Lisa as soon as we showed up in the evening. She promptly checked us in and gave a quick tour of the home with its history. Being a little late into town, she gave us a few dinner suggestions captured in her restaurant guide (very helpful). At roughly 8am smells of breakfast started to waft through the home which is quite pleasant. Claude's homemade breakfast at 9am was the highlight of every morning. Typically a two course meal with juice.

The king bed was supplied with custom bedding which was more comfortable than what we have at the house to be honest so we both slept quite well. The restroom is detached as described on their website but we did not find it inconvenient at all. For me, the best feature of the Magnolia House is the outside patio with the koi pond and waterfall. Underneath the shadows of the magnolia tree and with running water in the background could not provide a better backdrop for some evening time reading.

Fredericksburg itself has grown quite a bit since the 10 years we last visited. Great places to eat and with the additional vineyards, more things to do. The drive through the hill country is also quite nice.

Thanks,

Sam and Grace

We are so glad the birthday weekend was special for you both. Sitting around the Koi pond is a great way to relax and enjoy our beautiful spring weather. Hopefully it will not be another 10 years before you visit Fredericksburg again.

Host Claude was very nice, explaining history of the home upon arrival. We had the last room available and the bathroom/shower were outside of the bedroom. Web site explained it so I was expecting the inconvenience. We met some very nice people staying there and had a pleasant time. Brownies, tea, instant coffee, wine were offered in the afternoon/evening. Breakfast was wonderful, Oma's sausage, a spinach/mushroom fritta, fresh fruit, muffin, stuffed french toast started us on our day. My only negative was my husband didn't like the mattress and for some really odd reason the brass headboard would make sounds during night like someone was hitting it. Maybe we were just moving, not sure. But I would recommend it and would stay there again when in the area, just maybe a different room.

We are happy that you enjoyed your stay with us. We appreciate you bringing the headboard noise to our attention and we will look into the issue and make any repairs if necessary. All of the Magnolia House guest rooms have private bathrooms. The Peach Blossom room is one of the guest rooms with a detached bath and as you noted, we make it clear to our guests that the bath is located just outside the room. We also provide nice, comfy bathrobes for guests to use during their visit. Thank you for your review and comments.

We had a wonderful stay at the Magnolia House in Fredericksburg, TX this weekend and would highly recommend this B&B. We spent 2 nights, as a getaway from our parenting and work responsibilities while the grandparents stayed with our little ones at home. This was the perfect weekend for us - we only wish it were longer! The accommodations were perfect. There were no details overlooked. Anything you might possibly have forgotten or needed to make your stay perfect was there. The home and our room was very neat, clean and comfortable. The owners could not have been more friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was delicious (served at 9am) and large enough that we did not need lunch - just had a small snack and then on to a restaurant on Main St. for dinner. The owners also made a homemade afternoon treat each day (cookies one day, brownies another). Reusable water bottles are filled and placed in a fridge for your use, as well as a variety of complimentary soft drinks. Tea, hot chocolate, etc. is always available. DVDs and board games can be used by guests (all rooms have DVD players in the TVs, plus there are common rooms with a tv/dvd player as well).

We stayed in the Peach Blossom room, which had a detached bathroom. Do not overlook this this room just because the bathroom is detached. It is accessed immediately outside the door to your room (actually a few steps out the door on the right is the bathroom/sink room, and a few steps out the door to the left is the bath/shower room - we found it convenient to have these in separate rooms). This room was on the 2nd floor and only one other room is upstairs, so you are not likely to run into anyone on your way to the bathroom. Plus, they provide very comfortable robes that you can easily throw on for back and forth to the bathroom (for those few steps you have to take). The room itself was the perfect size for a couple who does not require the size of a suite.

With just the amount of room that we needed, we felt this room was a great value, especially with all of the other extras that come with your stay at the Magnolia (regardless of which room you stay in).

The location was also good for us - about 5 blocks from main street, which we drove, but there was ample (free) parking everywhere downtown, so this was perfect. Tucked away in a quiet area, but very close to everything.

We will definitely be back in the future! Thank you Lisa and Claude for being such great hosts!

We're so glad you had such a fun and relaxing weekend with us. We're happy you enjoyed all the extras we provide to our guests and we appreciate you pointing them out in your review. It's often difficult to make arrangements to leave the kids for a few days, but it is very important to spend some couple time together. Thank you for choosing the Magnolia House for your getaway!

We have stayed at the Magnolia house over 5 times and it continues to be a very comfortable and great place to stay in Fredericksburg. We enjoy the friendly and noy intrusive hospitality of Claude and Lisa, the owners. They provide refreshments throughout the day and freshly baked treats every afternoon. The breakfast are simply wonderful. and it allows us to feel very special and well fed before we start our day of exploring. The location of this bed and breakfast property is perfect for us because it is easy to walk or drive to town and far enough away for a private ambience. The Magnolia House is our favorite choice in Fredericksburg.

If you are looking for a home away from home, this is the place. It has a great location in Fredericksburg. The house is lovely and inside they think of everything. Our room had a kingsize bed, private bath, soaps, TV. Everything is very clean. Our room was refreshed while we enjoyed the best B&B breakfast I every had. The egg dish was so amazing each day, I bought their cookbook. We met lovely people also staying there. Both Lisa and Claude are the kind of hosts they help you know where to go and what to do. This is a gem in Fredericksburg. We will be back!

Room Tip: Our room was upstairs and had a big private bath. It had a kingsize bath.
