In the old days, you ate outdoors on shaded gravel, cats insisting on petting, herbs everywhere in view and edible flowers in the salads. A half a million dollars or so of remodeling later, you now eat indoors, no cats, no edible flowers, but now professional chef food at reasonable prices-- not cheap, but worth it. The herb garden seems to be neglected and fading away. We still like it but miss the funk and whimsy of yesteryear.
