“Great place, beautifully done”
Reviewed August 15, 2013 via mobile

Clearly, someone has a passion for historical aviation. This place appears to be built within the shell of an old Quonset hut, but is very upscale. The rooms are beautiful, with wonderful nostalgic touches ( the phone) and art. The staff is wonderful and the public space - particularly the Officers Club lounge is a step back in time but with all of today's luxury. A terrific and unique place a short drive from downtown.

We took a quick drive up from San Antonio and spent a Wed. and Thurs. night there using the very affordable Senior weekday rate. The Officer's Club does not open until Thursday evening but was fun for a drink. The next door diner is only open certain days and hours so if you want to enjoy that, check the schedule. There is coffee and scones and canned juice in the am so if you're a big breakfast eater you need to head into town. The front desk is very helpful on where to eat. The hotel is across the main road from the #1 rated dinner location-Cabernet Grill.

The small aircraft coming and going with the view from the porch couldn't have been any better. The hotel ties in perfectly with visiting the Pacific War Museum.

Room Tip: If you are there when the Officer's Club is open and early to bed and a light sleeper you may wa...

I've been wanting to stay at this hotel for a long time, as I have an interest in the WW II time period. I was not disappointed; it met and even exceeded my expectations. The hotel is beautifully decorated, with many items dating from the 1940s, with a focus on the Pacific, even right down to the toiletries in the rooms.
The lobby staff were helpful and friendly. The coffee is located near the lobby, and is fresh all day. I especially enjoyed the orange-cranberry scones for breakfast; they were delicious and offered with fruit. My room was comfortable and quiet.
Finally, you can't mention this hotel without a nod to the airport -- got to see a C-47 land and take off while I was there. The aviation focus certainly enhanced the experience for me.
Staying here was a fun and rewarding; I certainly plan on returning again and highly recommend this to anyone visiting Fredericksburg.

Able to sit in front to hotel and see city firework display. Have stayed here many time since I can park my plane out front. Taxi to city center $7. Dinner next door had good breakfast at good price (limited hours though), have not tried lunch their. Officers club fun and drinks not overpriced (limited hours). Front desk staff friendly. Only drawback is no coffee in rooms and no exercise facility. City park on other side of airport has pool but none at hotel. Hotel does have coffee, juice, scones and fresh fruit in morning if you want something light. No children allowed so nice and quite for couples.

Room Tip: Second floor facing north if you want to watch airplanes land

We spent two nights at the Hangar Hotel this week and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms were large with a king size bed and two large, comfortable chairs. The bathroom had a throwback decor that was nice. There are also porches where you can sit outside when the weather is nice and watch the planes take off and land. We were there in the middle of the week so the Officer's Club and the Diner were closed. The hotel and the airport are on the southwest side of Fredericksburg on Highway 16. It is not a long drive into town where most of the museums, shops and restaurants are located. The good news is that the hotel is right across the highway from The Cabernet Grill which is the best restaurant in town. The only thing I found wanting at the hotel was that there were no coffee makers in the rooms. Other than that the Hangar Hotel is a great place to stay in Fredericksburg. We'll be back.

Room Tip: Don't plan on sleeping late when there are quite a few planes around. They start taking off ear...

Another great special hotel. First class in a rustic way, which I prefer over all the fancy "elegant" city hotels. This one takes you back in time to WWII with many vintage decorations. An observation deck allowed us to watch an after-dark approaching lightning storm . The officers club had a great piano player and put on an entertaining show saturday night. Unfortunately, the ambiance was hurt by a couple of pool players who kept cracking balls during the performance. The rooms was large, beautifully decorated and the bed was comfortable. Across from the hotel was the Airport Diner , another retro masterpiece who served great lunches and breakfast. For a special place to stay , it's a must. Oooops , I forgot the shower curtain was not "belled " out as normal and the lightweight curtain was sucked in by the shower and you had to fight to keep it away! Other than that and the pool players, the stay was perfect.

Not only is a stay at the Hangar Hotel a unique experience, it gives you a small history lesson on 1940's décor and accommodations with all the modern conveniences slipped right in each room. I loved the old switchboard & grandfather clock in the lobby as well as the charming handset phones and clock that looked like grandma's wind up clock. (Minus the tick-tocks)
Having a family of aviator's, we were advised not to miss a stay here while in Fredericksburg and are so glad we heeded the advice. My husband explored around the airport and we had a great breakfast at the hotel diner. (However, I think its only open on weekends) Very quiet, comfortable and just a little more interesting than the chain hotels. My son often flies in when traveling across west Texas so it's a perfect stopover for him.

Room Tip: There is no restaurant available during the week, but it's very close to town if you have a car...
