“Nice quiet place. Friendly staff.”

Hangar hotel is just that, in an old airport Hangar. The rooms are pleasant, but not spectacular. There is no wifi available, or if there is, staff hides it well. They had a very light continental breakfast (coffee was good and the scones are great!) Its also fun to be so close to the airport....the taxiway, which is not very busy, it right next to the hotel and there is a great viewing deck. Decent diner next door. The Officers club lounge is adequate for a hotel bar. Not many channels for viewing, and my wife got tired of looking at all of the scantily clad cheesecake girls from the 40s. Also, this place is far enough from town, that driving is a must. Clients were mostly older couples (I'm not sure they allow kids). That was part of the charm though as the clients were very friendly and willing to talk and get to know others.

Still we liked the place and would probably go back again. There was no fitness center or pool.

Room Tip: Ask for something on the Diner side of the hotel, unless you want to be awoken by aircraft warming u...

This nostalgic hotel offers nice, large, clean, well appointed rooms and bathrooms. The room was nice and quiet, the bed very comfortable and the bathroom quite spacious. The nostalgic Officers Club is a "must" for an evening cocktail or two. They offer over 100 different martinis, plus other adult beverages. Be sure to grab a scone or two in the morning. They are fantastic! The hotel is located next to the airport runway and it is fun to watch the planes land and take-off. The hotel is very close to downtown, but you will need a car to get there. Be sure to check-out the diner next door.

Nostalgic 1940's South Pacific themed hotel located on a small airport(Gillespie) in Fredericksburg, Texas. Perfect for fliers of small aircrafts to fly in and stay as well as tourists that want to be taken back in time. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. We stayed here for a wedding reception that took place on the property. They also have a diner next door called the Airport Diner which is adorable and has excellent food. The whole hotel is a time capsule back into the 1940's era, even down to the music piped in. Very close to downtown Fredericksburg shops and restaurants. Quaint place to stay. Reasonable rates also. Complimentary breakfast items are out from 6-10 a.m. which consisted of baked goods, fruit coffee and juices. They also have a lounge with entertainment (may only be weekends). The Officer's Lounge is a bar with several chairs and tables and a billiard table. Would recommend to anyone looking for a unique overnight experience.

Just for fun we decided to stay at the Hanger Hotel because - well why not? Nice place with really kind hosts though it should be mentioned that the continental breakfast was very minimal. The 1940s theme can get a bit cheesy after the initial cool factor wears off but it is still a very interesting place to stay and very appropriate given the historic nature of Fredericksburg. It would be a lot more fun to arrive by private plane!

Room Tip: Get a room close to the airport side of the Motel. There is a deck where you can watch flight operat...

Staying at a WWII / golden age of travel themed hotel, you'd think it could be cheesy, a disney-fied version of history. This was not that. It was perfectly tasteful loving tribute to history without overkill on the decor. And you couldn't help but enjoy sitting on their patio, watching the small planes come and go, and drinking a glass of wine. Plenty of pilots staying at the hotel, but plenty of aviation enthusiasts and just local tourists as well. The O'club had live music from 7-10 pm on weekends and was a comfortable place to have a drink. If you are a pilot, T82 is a must stop - you can have a lot of fun without ever leaving the airport. My only complaint is the price was slightly high compared to the other area options, particularly considering many places nearer to main street are walking friendly and here you definitely need a rental car.

Room Tip: All the rooms appear to have a good view. A few are right over the back door to the O'Club, and...

We have stayed at the Hangar Hotel many times, but this time was really a disappointment. The wainscoting in the room had all been damaged as well as quite a few tiles in the bathroom. The wall had a dirty place on it and the sheers behind the curtains were missing entirely. When we opened the drapes anyone could see in. The sheers had given a little privacy by letting in light but keeping out prying eyes. One of the lightbulbs in the bath was out and it took two requests to get it replaced. They actually asked if we wanted to do it and this entailed climbing up a ladder to reach above the sink. I will say, however, that if cleanliness is your only criteria this would be a decent place to stay. It's just getting shabby from lack of upkeep. This used to be our favorite place to stay in Fredericksburg, but we have determined this will be our last stay.

Room Tip: Ask to see your room first. Apparently, upkeep is low on their list of priorities.

My husband and I went to Frederickburg for the weekend. The hotel was decorated with beautiful 1940's charm. When my husband called the front desk he was greeted by his surname. I noticed the staff was polite, professional, helpful and RESPECTFUL. So hard to find in this day. The officers club was closed but there were people in it so I didn't really understand that. The room was beautifully done including tasteful pin up art, Room 42's mattress was a little hard for us. I woke up several times with back pain and had to rotate. I don't have back pain so this was mattress related not guest. :) 1940's bathroom was darling and very clean I dropped a bobby pin and went to get it under the sink and not a speck of dirt, hair or anything was found. My bobby pen was in the far corner. That cleanliness was impressive to me. The room had a lovely army blanket included in decor. The front of the door was stamped the room number army barracks style. Instructions placed in the room made things easy. We attended the 1940's USO type dance that included an orchestra. They played 1940's music. It was nice and they had a great sound. The band director took to long to switch songs. After the song we would clap and go and sit down and by the time you were comfortable then he would start a new song. That might be how they do it I just expected another song to start after we clapped. The diner served hot dogs, burgers and nachos. Nothing fancy but sufficient for a hungry dancer. It was an older crowd with grown ups ranging from 25-90s plus. It was a classy crowd. There was a 1940's costume competition with some great outfits. It was confusing how to enter the competition. You just put your name on a paper and desribed what you were wearing. I assumed it would be a by applause type competion but somebody picked the winners ahead of time and that wasn't announced who decided. Winners were all couples and not individuals. There were several great individual costumes very consistent with correct 1940's attire. The lady in the white dress was my favorite. It was classic 1940s. The announcer of the winners got on a soap box about what was wrong with the government today and how we should all vote. That was uncomfortable and unpleasant. The bar was priced average and staff was polite. Security was present and smiled warmly when we entered. This was a great first time experience. I don't know if I would come back to the hotel because the price was a little high for sleeping on that kind of mattress. I would definitely go to the USO dance again.
