Owner description: n 2011 Messina Hof Hill Country Winery opened its doors in Fredericksburg, the second largest wine tourism destination in the country. Sitting on nearly 10 acres in the heart of Texas wine country along Highway 290, this winery also has its own vineyard. The Lenoir grapes grown at this location go into the making of more traditional style ports.

It didn’t have the ambience that the others had. It was almost like a store or bar. This place was super crowded with the bus tour that was there. They didn’t have enough help to handle the amount of people there. It took way too long just to get 5 samples... By the time we tasted our last sample, we were done with this place! It just wasn’t worth the time and effort to get a taste (5 tastings for $10-12). We really liked a few wines they had, we just wanted to get out of there. We had been to several other establishments with better ambience, customer service and overall wine taste. This is a nice place, but we really have no interest in going back.

My husband and I have been coming for 3 years now and this was our first time at Messina. The location was great, parking was easy and we went on a Friday night which I would highly suggest. Juan was excellent and we were the only couple there so we were able to take our time and relax and really enjoy our wine. He was very helpful and funny and we left home with their sparkling almond and moscato!

Messina Hof's standard wines are consistently good and has one of the wider selections of white and red wines in the area. However, their premium "Paulo" reserve label wines are exceptional! I especially like the Paulo Primitivo. It rivals a good Primitivo from Europe!

This place really seemed like a store. It certainly wasn't on my to do list, but I was with a group. When you walk in it feels like a store. No ambiance at all. I knew driving up to it that it wasn't going to be worth it...they have a huge warehouse/barn thing to the side with a few grape plants.

Due to a very rambunctious wedding party (five young ladies), we were a bit delayed in getting anyone to wait on us and actually had to ask for service and guidance. The wines were a bit sweet but we did find a couple that were tasty. The newness of this facility has not quite gotten its legs yet to follow the Messina Hof in Kurten, Tx but I think it will come into its own.
Tasting was $20 per for 5 wines but you do keep the Messina Hof glass as a 'gift'.
