My husband and I stayed in the Gasthaus at Das Keidel Inn during the weekend of the Fredericksburg Weinechten festival. The location cannot be beat... we walked across Main St and had a great vantage point for the parade. We never needed our car and walked everywhere all weekend long... all of the shops and restaurants are within minutes walking distance - our fave restaurant is Auslander which is super close to this place.

The room and house is older and not as updated as I would have liked, but I am not complaining because it was an incredibly reasonable rate for the awesome location. Oh and the breakfast was just perfect! They serve a full breakfast that is fresh, delicious and filling! Fred and Gloria are also so much fun to talk to... they have a great shop on Main St as well. Tip - if you stay here and are a light sleeper, bring earplugs. I had to use them because the main street traffic noise disturbed me (it is not loud, but audible enough to affect light sleepers like myself). Also, we had an infant with us, so the Gasthaus was the ideal room for our stay (we attempted the Rhine Suite - it was too small).

Overall a great place to stay for the price... we'll probably stay here again if it's available next time we're in town - thank you Fred & Gloria!!!

Das Keidel Inn is a lovely place to stay. Our family rented the entire property for the weekend and it was perfect for our needs. The beds were heavenly and breakfast was great. We were blessed with perfect weather and were able to spend lots of time sitting in the court yard visiting; as well as, lazing around in the bright and sunny living area. Fred and Gloria are wonderful hosts and I would recommend Das Keidel Inn to my friends.

Fred and Gloria were wonderful and their breakfasts were delicious and plentiful. The other guests were fun and we had lots in common with them. The B&B is very convenient at the east end of everything.

But, the place needs lots of upkeep. They cannot water due to cost and the draught has caused everything to look dead. We understood not watering the yard, but the fountain was not working and was full of "gunk." The potted plants had not been watered and were dying. The room we stayed in had a rug that was stained and looked dirty (although it may not have been) and really, really needed to be replaced.

We stayed in Das Gast House, which is a two-storey private cottage in the grounds, a few yards from the main house, for 2 nights in September 2008.

Having flown in from London, we got off to a bad start as the key wasn't left for us as pre-arranged and the owner's mobile was on voicemail! Having begun to panic and consider our motel options, we were fortunate to a) find an unlocked door to gain entry and b) an hour later to be able to get through to the owner. All's well that ends well but it wasn't a good start 5000 miles from home!

The accommodation itself was excellent, with a lovely bedroom upstairs, beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Downstairs, the living room was very comfortable and there was a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom. The grounds were very nice and the location of Das Kiedel is superb, just a short walk across the road to Main Street and various bars and restaurants.

Breakfast was pretty good, brought over to us on a tray each morning, and consisted of hot & cold produce, including fruit, juice and yoghurt. As we were the only guests the main house remained closed during our stay so we probably missed out on the kitchen breakfast experience which other guests have commented on.

In summary, if you are visiting Fredericksburg then Das Kiedel is a high quality B&B inn, well located, well appointed and well worth a stay.

We spent a wonderful long weekend at the Das Keidel Inn in mid-July. There were four couples and one baby and the house worked perfectly for our group. The rooms were very comfortable and decorated beautifully. Fred and Gloria have a wonderful shop at the end of the main street and their home is a reflection of their great taste!
The Inn is located in a perfect spot - great walking access to shops and restaurants and very easy to get to by car.
Fred and Gloria could not have been nicer - we stayed up late laughing and playing games and hope we didn't disturb them! The breakfast was great - hot and homemade each morning and always something different. I hear there are several B+B's in town that don't truly make breakfast, but this is not one of them!
The Inn is perfect for a large family or a group of friends - we had the run of the place. There are two mini-fridges and a microwave so you can have access to drinks and snacks. We had two bathrooms in the main house and access to a third if needed - it worked fine for the 8 adults with a little bit of planning.
We planned our reservation easily via phone and email and Fred was very accomodating with some last-minute travel changes. Don't miss this great spot!
