“History made interesting and understandable”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

Very well done. I have read a lot about World War II, yet I learned a lot of new information. My husband and I spent probably close to 6 to 6 1/2 hours over the course of two days. Your ticket allows entry for two days. I would never have imagined that it would be interesting enough to go the second day, but indeed it was. Even though the Admiral Nimitz family history part was interesting, given the breadth of the Pacific War Pavilion, I would have spent less time on the Nimitz Family section. Do not miss the Combat zone area. This section you must go with a guide. You will see a real pt boat a real plane from the war and most impressively see a pacific island battle zone area (very authentic). They do combat demonstration 7 times a year. We did not get to see one, but I think it would be great to see. The best part was the personal stories of combat veterans that have been recorded and incorporated into the pertinent areas of the pacific war pavilion. I recommend highly. It was comprehensive and gave tribute to the men and women who fought for our freedom without glorifying war. FREEDOM IS NOT FREE.

“Very interesting and historic”
Reviewed December 27, 2012

I love history and enjoyed visiting this museum. I used to live in Hawaii and of course, Chester Nimitz was a key figure in the Pacific War. Very interesting to see his home place.

“excellent coverage of WWII in the pacific”
Reviewed December 4, 2012

Site is in at least 4 parts; Nimitz Museum, devoted to the Admiral's life; the George Bush gallery, an impressive chronology of not only the war in the Pacific, but the relations between the USA, Japan, China, which led up to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Then a battle reinactment site, with Japanese tanks & other memorabilia of the war, then another site that takes 2-4 hours to walk & which I didn't have time for. Ticket is good for all sites for 2 days, which is great. Highly recommend this.

“A Unique Experience”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

This museum, dedicated to the Pacific Theater in WWII, is located here because Chester Nimitz, CINCPAC during that war, was born here. Originally just the Mimitz Museum and located in the building which his grandfather operated as an elegant hotel during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it has expanded to a multi-site, multi-acre facilty with interactive displays and exhibits, as well as live re0enactments of WWII-style combat. You can get a taste of it in about 4 hours, but the full experience will take the better part of two days. No person interested in WWII should fail to visit, and kids from 7-8 up wil be entertained.
