We booked the cabin because it was close to our main event, the annual crab fest, but we actually had more fun hanging out at the cabins; we were watching and chasing armadillos, feeding the cows and chickens, and even though the owners were (unfortunately) out of town, they told us where to find their horse and where to access fresh carrots and apples to feed him; we enjoyed playing washers/horseshoes and just walking around the place; in the mornings and evenings we enjoyed the beautiful view from our balcony; the fresh eggs and amazing Canadian style bacon (from local meat market Opa’s) were the best parts of the breakfast items they provided; and right down the road (give or take a mile) was the Alamo Springs Cafe where we ate the best burger we’ve ever had...!
We definitely want to go back when the weather is cooler so we can better enjoy walking the area and having a fire in the nice big shared fire pit...!
And last but not least, the owners were so nice and so easy to deal with through our text and phone conversations - love dealing with people like that...!

Y’all should try this place...

Lauri, we are sad we did not get to meet you this trip.. We are very happy you took our place in entertaining and being entertained by our cows and Cowboy the horse! We hope we might see you again soon and we can join you on one of the morning walks. We walk most mornings, so it would be fun to share the routine and share stories with you!

One of our absolute highlights of our Route 66 detour.
Walnut Cabins are amazing. Beautiful scenery on the drive up to the cabins. On arrival Carl & Rhonda met us with one of the most genuine and friendly welcomes I have ever had on any trip anywhere. Two lovely people who definitely love what they do.
We booked the Siesta Cabin, with the rooftop lookout. From first step through the door, we knew we made the right choice. Spotlessly clean and open. From a previous chat with Carl, I mentioned it was a special occasion for us, and on arrival there was a bottle of bubbly waiting foe us in the fridge. A lovely touch.
There is also a bag of corn, to feed the wild deer that come around the cabin. Cows to feed, chickens and a "Time challenged" Cockerel. All these add to the amazing experience. Not to mention Arnold the Armadillo who lives near by....
You will not feel more relaxed as you do sitting on the rooftop with a glass of wine looking out over the treetops, not a sound to be heard.
I really hope to be able to come back to these cabins in the future. Thank you Carl & Rhonda for a fantastic stay.

This is the most wonderful place to stay!!! The cabin was spectacular! The views! Carl and Rhonda have thought of everything you could need while staying. Farm fresh eggs, fruit, and local coffee and Canadian bacon for breakfast. Clean and just absolutely perfect. The hospitality is something hard to find and Carl and Rhonda go above and beyond. Welcoming us when we got here and just so nice to have a conversation with. My husband and I can not wait to come back. Just can’t say enough about this place!!!

The host go above and beyond to make one's stay a pleasant one. From the greeting received, to the cleanliness of the cabin, down to the small details such as the fresh berries and breakfast fixings and robes in the armoire, these folks make one feel at home. The view from our cabin was fantastic. We stayed at the Woods cabin overlooking the canyon. The back porch was an awesome place to sit and relax. Couldn't have ask for a better stay in the hill country of Texas.
