“Second time here for anniversary”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

My husband and I cannot say enough about how wonderful Joe & Becky are and how much we love their cabins. We came here a few years back for our first anniversary and came back recently for our fourth. The location is PERFECT--quick drive to the main city area and just far enough to really kick back in the country and enjoy the quietness and be able to see all the stars. The ranch has everything you need from a nice little cabin with all the essentials with a deck for viewing and relaxing to a community area with a "cowboy hot tub", horseshoes, washers and grill/smoker for cooking. We actually cancelled our dinner reservations on Saturday night, picked up some steaks and came back to grill ourselves and enjoy each other's company in the sunset.
We brought our bikes and went for a ride in the morning along the back roads to enjoy the scenery. From before we arrived and through our entire visit, Joe & Becky's customer service was outstanding. They made us feel comfortable, quickly got back to us with any questions we had and went above and beyond during our stay. They are truly wonderful people that have a passion for taking care of others. We will continue to recommend their place to anyone we can, you will not be disappointed!!

At first I was a little distressed that the B&B was so far away from town, but after going to town I realized who needs it. This is such a beautiful area of the country. The cabins seem remote, but they really are a short drive away from shopping and restaurants. We socialized with some of the guests the first night and watched a meteor shower and cooked out the next night at the cabins for my husband's birthday. I got up and watched the sun rise and saw the deer get their breakfast in the morning. So peaceful. There is a tv with a dvd player in the room, but the view is so beautiful it seemed like a waste to watch tv. Owners were friendly and the breakfast in the morning was very good. This is a great value for what you get. We hit a distillery tour and a wine tour. Much more fun than the hustle and bustle of the crowds on the main strip in Fredericksburg. They do have some nicer shopping, but with the heat and the crowds, I would rather hike or have wine at the cabins. Only suggestion I would have is get the air conditioning going in the cabin the day before guests arrived. I am guessing that no one was in ours for a while and they had turned on the air that afternoon. It was so stifling that we didn't go to bed until after midnight. I didn't think it was going to cool off, but it did and it was awesome after that. My only complaint. Fantastic little place.

I love this place! We stayed in the Cowboy cabin. Comfortable bed, nice linens, flat screen TV with a good selection of DVD's, 2 rockers on the front porch, and the best views in the hill country. We saw deer at sunrise and sunset, and we thoroughly enjoyed the serenity and peace of the ranch. The location is perfect! Want to go to town? Want to visit the wineries on 290? Just drive 10 minutes and you can be in the middle of it all. The breakfasts were absolutely amazing... French toast, sausage, and strawberries with cream the first morning, and an English muffin with ham, eggs, feta cheese and a blueberry muffin as well as fresh fruit the second morning. All homemade, arriving promptly between 8:45-9:00 am, hand delivered. But what makes this place heaven in the hill country is the hospitality of the hosts. Becky and Joe were truly the best at what they do. They make you feel like family. We enjoyed every minute of our conversations with them, and every minute of our stay. We travel to the area 2-3 times per year, and I hope I will always find a cabin available there from
now on. We both did not want to leave!

Since I had visited here previously on a "girls weekend" of winery tours and knew how beautiful the setting was, my fiance and I decided to marry at Tonkawaya. It couldn't have been more perfect! There was a cool breeze blowing up the hill (in July...in Texas!!) and just the calm quiet of the countryside as our backdrop. We needed few decorations, since the view was so stunning, but Becky helped us with those, as well as with the logistics, and even with setting up a limo for our ride into Fredericksburg for dinner. It really was ideal, and we couldn't have asked for more for our special day. We enjoyed the rest of our weekend by celebrating in Luckenbach, just a short ride away, and visiting with our wedding party on the porches of our cabins. I couldn't recommend Tonkawaya Ranch more highly. Whether you want a fun getaway with friends, or a romantic weekend, THIS is the place to stay!

Room Tip: The Little White House is so comfy and cute! Everyone kept coming in to take photos of the decor!

What a beautiful service that your husband performed for the wedding couple! It was nice to see you again (after meeting you at Girlie Weekend) and Joe and I very much appreciate your comments on Tripadvisor. There is no better recommendation than personal experiences shared! Thank you so much for taking the time to post.

We stayed just one night late March mid-week with my 2 young sons. It was so lovely for us to have a relaxing night away, boys loved running around, playing with horseshoes, sitting on the tractor, we enjoyed a campfire and the room was gorgeous and very comfortable bed. There was a cowboy tub - but too cold to try.

We stayed in the Wranglers Cabin, which had a bed upstairs and one downstairs for the boys. Fully equipped kitchen so we cooked dinner and Becky gave us a very yummy breakfast - even catered for Gluten Free husband!

We enjoyed sitting on the porch in the rocking chairs looking at the sunset then the stars come out. Was so peaceful and relaxing. Wish we could of stayed longer but coming from Australia, we had lots to see and visit over USA!

Also recommend the Salt Lick BBQ - which is in Driftwood Texas. This was 1 hr away.

Becky was a great help in booking and whole process was easy!

Fredericksburg was a quaint cute little town as well.

Highly recommend a stay here and if ever in the area, would love to come back for a longer stay!

This is one peaceful, relaxing and beautiful place to stay. Joe and Becky do everything they can to make your stay the best. Becky is a great cook and personally brings breakfast to your door each morning. Joe built a great camp fire for us to enjoy while relaxing and gazing at the stars and the occasional falling star. One evening we enjoyed having dinner at the picnic table and watching the deer and wildlife. The ranch is only minutes from all that Fredericksburg has to offer yet you are out in peaceful country living. Don & Amy

Joe and I are so pleased that you chose to spend a night with us! We appreciate your kind words, and especially the time you set aside to leave a review for other travelers - and we hope that you will have the opportunity to return some day. Many of our Australian travelers have shared the same sentiments- they wished they had spent another day or two between destinations to rest and enjoy... thank you for sharing this information for others.
