Owner description: This unique museum is spread out over 4 acres, and includes a general store, barn, and blacksmith shop among other 19th-century styled exhibits.

The museum is set up to give you some very good insight into what life was like around Fredericksburg back in the mid 1850's. It's not the typical museum in that it consists of several small buildings (homes, shops, barns, etc.) that have been restored and relocated to this site. You are able to walk through and in between these historic buildings in a very pleasant setting. Each building as a motion-activated audio that starts when you enter and each gives you a good feel for the building and its contents.

We happened on this museum on our recent visit to Fredricksberg. We loved being able to walk through the buildings and hear about the history surrounding them. A great place to learn and see how life was back then. The museum curators are very friendly and knowledgeable. A great experience that was enjoyed by my family!

The Pioneer Museum is amazing! 10 buildings are preserved and filled with artifacts from the era. You are able to walk inside each building and immerse yourself in history, it's self guided tour. !The grounds are beautifully maintained. Very affordable entrance fee, clean, modern restrooms. You won't be disappointed

This was a really interesting self guided tour that told the story of the first settlers in Fredericksburg.
While the restored buildings and contents were interesting it was the narrated details that really brought the experience to life.
It was a pleasure to visit and as with other places in Fredericksburg, the attendant working here was of German descent and very proud of her heritage.
She said that most people of her age who had been away to University all ended up moving back to the area as it was such a nice place to live.

This was a terrific way to learn the local history of this community. Make sure you see the video. The buildings are packed with history and the way the audio narrates what happened in them is quite enjoyable.

The staff was very eager to help us understand their community. It is obvious they care and are proud of their heritage.
