My husband and I stayed in the Kusenberger Log Cabin in celebration of our wedding anniversary. The setting, which is just the right distance from town, is so beautiful. We saw deer all weekend out of the front door and windows. Sheep and a donkey wander the grounds during the day. Each morning we built a fire, made coffee and indulged in the pastries that had been delivered while we were out the day before. The cabin was clean, cozy and quaint. I would definitely recommend this cabin for the couple who wants to escape city life and live a 19th century fantasy (with all of the modern conveniences of course). My only word of caution would be for the taller folks. My husband is 6'4" and had to stoop to avoid the beams and low doorways, but had no complaints because everything else about the cabin was perfect.

I spent a weekend with my fiancé at Settlers Crossing and we were both very satisfied. The property is great and the cabin was perfect.
Breakfast was pastries and cereal and it was delivered in the morning.
The property has sheep and a donkey wondering around. So much fun.

We've been going to this beautiful place for many years & plan to continue going for years to come. If you want some peace & quiet while enjoying nature at its best, this is the place for you! David & Melissa Estes live right on the property of 35 acres & are available if needed. Upon our arrival, our TV wasn't working so David immediately hopped off his tractor to come over to help us. There are 7 very different historic houses, but our favorite is still The Baag House. Sitting on the front porch watching the deer at their feeder was our favorite thing to do. Also, our walks around the property were always filled with sights of various animals. Lastly, its location is so convenient to Fredericksburg, peach stands, & Wildseed Farms (great gifts for Christmas).

Room Tip: The Baag House is our favorite!

In April, 2013, we once again drove from the DFW area to Settlers Crossing . . .this time we had grandchildren in tow and my sister and her husband, with their grandchildren also joined us. From the minute the little ones hit the ground at "the farm" as they called it, we saw very little of them . . .they were out exploring from daylight to dusk. We had to corral them to go on little trips off the property, and they could hardly wait to return. We stayed in the Pioneer House this time while my sister stayed in the Baag House with her brood. The children found treasures on their walks and were proud of horse shoes, bird nests, a wasp nest, and all sorts of things. Returning home, the 8 year old wrote a paper for school proclaiming it the best vacation ever! We stayed 5 days and none of the children wanted to leave. Our 5 year old asked his Poppa to buy the houses so we could stay there "forever". David is a gracious host . . .always . . .and this time was no exception. He has added a book discussing the history of the property and a brief synopsis of each of the houses, which we found most interesting, with photos, in each of the houses . . .a nice touch as they answer many questions concerning the property . . .Its interesting to know what infamous people owned it before the current owners. Once again we highly recommend this property. We head down again this October to see hopefully some fall color, but if there is none, we will still sit on the porch of the Baag house (our favorite) and listen to the quiet!!

Room Tip: If you are with family, the Von Heinrich, Pioneer house or Baag house would fit nicely. Keep in mind, there is only one bathroom in each house . . .Also the Von Heinrich has stairs if that is a problem . . .We ALWAYS stay in either the Baag or Pioneer . . .the Pioneer has that wonderful porch swing . . .heavenly!!

We stayed to celebrate our mom's 80th birthday...What a unique place to get away and she absolutely loved the house she was in. David was very accommodating to us and we will certainly send our friends to this special getaway. My only suggestion is to have a check-in sign when you drive in so you don't disturb other guests. Otherwise..thankyou for a wonderful weekend!
