Description: The Airport Diner is a classic 1940s diner, located next door to the Hangar Hotel and immediately adjacent to the Gillespie County Airport aircraft parking ramp. From the booths, you can watch aircraft come and go while enjoying great sandwiches, breakfast, and daily Blue Plate Specials. The Diner is not just a place to grab some food, but rather a unique atmosphere to relax and enjoy a good meal while reliving the past. And you never know what you might see land just outside the window.

“review from a local”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

I really wish the owners/managers read these..... We have been here about 8 times in the last year. The food is fine and the atmosphere is fun- that's why we go; because the kids get a kick out of watching the planes, and they have macaroni cheese (sometimes) and grilled cheese sandwiches for the kids. However, the service is TERRIBLE. There is one good waitress, and we always pray she is working. First off, it is seat yourself, and the dining room is small. There are only 2 tables that will seat more than 4 people. So if you have more than 4 people in your party, be prepared to wait or sit at different booths. When you finally sit down it may take anywhere from 5-15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge your presence. There is usually only 2 waitresses and then a manager working the bar. Like I said, the dining room is very small, so you would think this is enough....but the staff acts like they have 30 tables to work. When you finally get your drinks, you better not be thirsty because getting a refill takes an act of congress. When they deliver your food, make sure to ask for anything they might have forgotten or that you need, because you may not see them for awhile.

This review is based on visiting several times.... bad service is more common that not at this establishment.

Kelly A, Manager at Airport Diner, responded to this review, August 13, 2013
Thank you for your return business over the last year, we appreciate all of our loyal locals. Please know that the owners and managers for the property take great pride in our food and service - we read all of the reviews posted here, so that we can improve in any way possible.

Yes, our restaurant is small - max capacity is about 75 and therefore we do get very busy, especially on weekends. Sometimes larger groups will have to split up - but many also enjoy sitting at the bar. The restaurant is set up in the style of an 1940s railcar diner and most of the seating is at booths, in keeping with the theme.

We apologize that you have had any experiences at the restaurant that were less than great. All of our servers work hard to provide superb service. If you ever have a problem with a server we ask that you please ask to speak with a manager on duty so that the problem can be addressed immediately. As you can see from other reviews, bad service is not a typical occurrence and we have many locals that visit us regularly.

We are a small family owned company; we thank you for your business and hope you'll come back to visit us again.

“Cute 50's style diner”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Fun diner atmosphere and decor where you can watch take-offs and landings while you eat. Waitresses wore "Bomber Girls" T-shirts. Delicious club sandwich- called the Officer's Club :) with homemade chips. Chicken-fried chicken (called the C-47) with mashed potatoes and fresh veggies was also very good.

“Lunchtime at the airport”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

A unique experience. It was fun to watch people land their planes/helicopters, come inside and eat lunch. The décor was very classic 50's diner. The service was excellent and the food was tasty. My kids had the chicken fried chicken, my wife the chicken salad sandwich and I had the local sausage sandwich. All good stuff!
