“Great, easy walk around rock and beautiful views atop”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2013

Spent a cloudless spring morning with my 13-year old son and husband on the 4-mile loop trail, finishing with the .6 mile climb to the summit. Beautiful countryside, the cacti were in bloom. And the trails were clean and well-kept. And for a Sunday we had the loop trail practically to ourselves. The drive there from Austin is very pretty. As our reward we drive 15 miles up the road to the best pit BBQ we've ever had -- Cooper's in Llano, Texas. A perfect day in Hill Country!

“Not to be missed!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2013

Got to the park around 8:30 a.m. on a Sunday morning and there was no line to get in and just a handful of visitors inside the park. The fee was $7.00 each to get in. This was the perfect time to go as the weather was beautiful, crisp and clear.

We did the summit trail hike. We are very fit and found the hike still a little challenging. It took us about 30 minutes to get to the top and we probably stopped to rest 3 times. We only had one water bottle between us and wished we had brought another. We loved the hike and I got beautiful pictures. There are places to watch for as there are cracks/ravines and we couldn't help but wonder how many ankles had been sprained on that rock. But we loved it and I would say it's not to be missed when in Fredericksburg.

By the time we left around 10:15 am, there was already a line of cars forming to get in.

“Enchanted Rock ups and downs”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2013

Overall, great park, clean bathrooms, reminders to fill water at water stations, warnings not to swim in dirty water and beautiful clean stream for wading--cool off hot feet after a long hike. Our campsite owners at Oxford Ranch had warned us to get there early, so we were there by 8:40 am and waited only about 10 minutes to get in. We had breakfast and hiked up to the top of the rock--very windy, temperature changed a lot, but the view all around was beautiful. The cave on the other side was recommended by park staff for children but the entrance was too narrow and steep for my elementary and preschool-age children. It's the kind of cave you need a flashlight for and plan to leave backpacks outside, but an older elementary age child or older could handle it if tight spaces are ok--not recommended for claustrophobic people of any age, but after the entrance, other hikers told us it widened out. My choice to keep my younger children was validated sadly when we saw a hiker emerge quickly with a young child who fell and had an inch or so cut on his head--granite is not forgiving if you slip, and it's moist in there. There were other rocks nearby for children to explore and climb around in, so children still had a cave experience. We also saw an adult with several cuts on his arm from a fall, but the sheepish expression on his face made us guess he had made a mistake to cause his fall. Still, both serve as warnings to be careful. We stayed on the marked paths or followed where the majority was going if we weren't sure of the trail, and had a great time with no problems at all. We also were glad we wore layers, and kept applying sunblock. Fun time for children and adults.

“The Park Rangers were very helpful.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2013

I liked the fact there was a place for folks who were not climbing the rock to have a lace to wait. It was Spring break for all the school age children so the park was very busy...I like the fact that the park is open till 10 PM

“Get there before 9am if you don't want to wait in line for 1hour +. Bring water”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2013 via mobile

My 9 year old son and I had a terrific time time climbing to the top of the rock. It wasn't to strenuous and March is a great time to go bc it's not to hot. We did get a little sunburned on the neck, so I would suggest wearing sunscreen.
