“Activity in which most can participate”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

0.6 miles long but relatively steep hike up or a 4 mile hike around the granite rock gives options to enjoy the scenery. Great view from the top of the rock. Note, if you want to go into the cave on the top, I would not recommend it to anybody who is not agile and petite. The exit is very tight. Otherwise, this is a fun and pretty little park to visit.

“Beautiful view”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

Beautiful view but did not quite make it to the top. Make sure you wear good shoes. Go early as there is no shade and it gets quite hot!

“Enchantment on a Rock”
Reviewed September 6, 2012

Enchanted Rock Texas State Natural Area -- that says it all, really! The Rock is the second largest batholith in the US, third largest in the world. Take the slow, easy path, in cool weather and most people can make the top - this 62 year old lady did -- and the view from the top of this pink granite dome is, well, enchanting! Take time to preview the area on websites or resource books before you go so you can truly appreciate what you are seeing on the trail up, and the vista from the summit. This is a Texas "natural" area, which means you need to provide your own food and water. There are picnic areas available, so come early to hike, bring plenty of water and a delicious picnic lunch, and enjoy this beautiful place. If you plan your day to include a full-moon rising, you'll see and hear the "enchantment" which prompted the Tonkawa Indians to name the rock. And if you only want the hike and a quick rest, you can certainly head back to Fredericksburg for a delicious German meal! Enchanted Rock is definitely a Texas Treasure!

“great nature outing”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

This is worth a day at least. Take a picnic and let the kids run all over the top of the dome, down through the cave, through the wooded rocky trail in the middle, and then play in the creek. I've been camping there too and had a nice time except for the bothersome raccoons who tried to raid the camp. If you're into rock climbing, this might be the place to learn. It has enough challenge for a moderate adventurer to enjoy. Be sure to see the exhibits also.
