Owner description: Formerly the Nimitz Museum, the complex is now America's only museum centered on World War II's Pacific campaign. Since 1968, the Museum has expanded to occupy a six-acre campus and gained a reputation as one of the premier military museums in the nation. Over the years the Museum was upgraded and enlarged, and the campus grew to accommodate the Memorial Courtyard, the Plaza of Presidents and the Japanese Garden of Peace. We opened the expanded George H. W. Bush Gallery in 2009. The Gallery's state-of-the-art 33,000 square foot exhibition features 40 media installations, approximately 900 artifacts in 97 climate-controlled cases, 15 macro-artifacts, and hundreds of photographs. Two blocks east of the main campus is the Pacific Combat Zone. Recently reopened after an $8 million renovation. The PCZ is also home to our popular WWII Pacific Combat Program that takes place on set weekends throughout the year.

“Very well done.”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

I actually did not go in the Museum of the Pacific War, but my husband spent about 6 hours in the two locations of it and he raved about it. He felt it is very complete with much detail and fascinating facts.

“Unbelievable!”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Very well done and unbelievable that such a small town has this quality of a museum. Save at least half a day especially if it is crowded. We went mid-week on a slow week and it took us over 3 hours. Be sure and take the guided tour of the Pacific Combat Zone which takes about an hour.

“Outstanding”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

We came to the hill country to see the flowers and found this amazing museum. Plan to spend a half day here if you can. There is so much to see and the material includes lots of videos as well as photos and artifacts. I would come back to spend more time here.

“Absolutely shocked at the quality of this place!”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

We didn't come to Fredericksburg to see this museum, but thought when in Rome. So we walk in to see how much. I think they wanted $18/person and I was about to walk out, but it became free when we showed our military IDs. I kinda expected to breeze thru this place real quick and run off to eat. WOW. With every exhibit you see you are riding on a runaway train of interest. I NEVER would have a guessed a museum THIS NICE about the WAR IN THE PACIFIC would be in a little town in WEST TEXAS. We weren't able to finish before closing time... So we changed our plans for the next day to finish up at the museum before we left town. Listen to all these othr reviewers giving this place 4-5 stars! It's not a fluke!
