Dietzel Motel
Ranked #15 of 25 Hotels in Fredericksburg
Reviewed April 11, 2012

I have made many trips to Fredericksburg and had driven by this motel many times. I always noticed how well kept the property was but never stayed here. I have stayed at several different places in Fredericksburg, usually paying twice to three times what the Dietzel costs.
We made a last minute decision to take a weekend trip to see the bluebonnets and many hotels were booked so decided to try the Dietzel. Although it is an older motel, it is very well maintained and extremely clean. The property owners live onsite and were helpful and friendly. We called to say we wouldn't be arriving until 10:30 p.m. and although they close at 10:00 the owner stayed open until we got there. The view from our window to the back was a large field with trees and bluebonnets and in front of the hotel were adirondack chairs and a gazebo. It is a great value and we will be back.

This motel so reminded me of traveling with my parents and staying in the nicer motels of the late 1940s and 1950s. The room a little larger than what we see in today's hotel/motel properties, the room heating comes from coil type electric heaters, there's a friendly greeting at the front desk, the parking lot and the type of building were what you saw before Holiday Inn and the rest came along. However, this trip we knew we would be spending only nights at the motel and so the "out-of-the-way" location, rate and other TripAdvisor reviews fit our plans. The condition of the motel is good and a tribute to the maintenance by the owner. Beds were good, room was clean, no tub but a shower there, quiet at night (vacant rooms to either side of us) and a good restaurant within walking distance. Can't say we'd stay here again if we were in Fredericksburg because we're so used to Best Western, Holiday Inn Express, Hampton and kin but it certainly worked for us this trip.

Stayed 4 nights and were very pleased. An older facility (probably 50s or 60s) but very well maintained, clean, and neat. Out on the edge of town, so less traffic and quiet. It's a 'live-in' motel, so the folks who run it actually live there 24-7 and are very nice. Only quibble - no tub - just a shower. Maybe some of the rooms have tubs - don't know.

Room Tip: Ask for one with fridge & microwave if you want that. Not all rooms have them.

It's not a chain, not new but has character and the owners are very friendly and helpful. It's the only place we stay when we go to Fredericksburg.

This is one of the best motels we have stayed at. We like mom and pop places and this is a good one. The owners, Andy and Trudi, were the greatest hosts. They were friendly and the type of people you can sit around and chew the fat with. They were very helpful in suggesting places to eat, see and visit. I can't say enough about how clean and nice the rooms were. The beds were comfy and the room had a recliner, sofa, and a great view. We stayed for three nights and a storm was to pass thru Friday night and they offered to let us put our motorcycles under the porch overhang and even offered us the use of a shed. I could go on for a while about how good this place is but you get the idea. Give this place a try. You won't regret it.
Thanks so much Andy and Trudi for a wonderful stay.

I agree with the others that this hotel was clean. I unfortunately don't agree that it was such a great value. It is old and that is not an issue. The owners have not tried to make it cozy or quaint. Just old. The carpet is new. The flat screen is the smallest I have ever seen. I didn't know they made them that small. lol The room was 100.00. Not worth that. No coffee pot in room, no internet at all in rooms and no plugs for cell phones etc. I travel quite a bit and am dependent on the internet for regional info. Towels old and warn. The person at the front desk was NOT so friendly. Not rude just not very helpful. Not impressed. I have stayed at many mom and pop hotels that were less $$ and absolutely wonderful. I just stayed in San Antonio at the Marriot (one block from Riverfront) for 100.00. Disappointed.

we wanted to get away from the big chain hotels and boy did we make the right decision.
this is a motel, where you pull up to your room. all one story. this has to be the cleanest place we have stayed in ANYWHERE. big room, lazy boy next to picture window looking out to nature in back. previous review said not updated tv but ours was a flat screen on wall which to me is pretty up to date. also nice vanity area outside of bathroom with seating and mirror with hair dryer.
not sure how old it is but it definately was well maintained and clean. will not stay anywhere else when in the hill country area!
