Steaks are average, calf fries amazing, love sipping mimosas on a Sunday in the bar area in a booth overlooking the creek.

While the menu offers a great variety of dishes from both land and sea, it is, after all, a steakhouse deep in the heart of Texas, specifically the old part of Forth Worth. For that reason, we skipped the seafood and ordered the steak. My strip steak was juicy and flavorful -- no need for steak sauce. Marries well with a crisp local dark beer that is served on tap. If you like sauerkraut and Mexican food, be sure not to miss out on the kapusta soup, a somewhat spicy specialty of this famous eatery. The soup's recipe is said to have originated in Poland. For the more adventurous diner, Riscky's offer's "calf fries" (they're veal scrota). You may very well share the dining room with plenty of cowboys and some cowgirls (we saw plenty of hats). They, along with walls to look like storefronts of the old west, lend an allusion to what Texas may have been like when cattle was king in those parts.

Prepare yourself before you arrive: cowboy hat - CHECK, cowboy boots - CHECK, Wrangler jeans - CHECK. Everyone in our party had a great time but we were definitely out of our element. The food was good (and reasonably priced) and the staff was helpful. I would visit again, but be more prepared.

The decor and ambience convey Texas-country -- a fun place to hangout. The food, including dessert, was good though not great -- more 1953 than 2013. Our server worked hard as the pace was packed. Overall, Riscky's is a good place to take out-of-town guests though it is not for foodies.
