Four of us enjoyeed a wonderful Mothr's Day Brunch this morning....the food was wonderful.
Service was a little slow, but they were busy, busy!

What I like about the Tavern is that they have pretty high-quality food that seems to me like a hybrid between Texas BBQ and interior Mexican Cuisine (especially Mexico DF). It has a nice ambience that feels cosmopolitan/ hip, without trying too hard. The service is the only thing that keeps me from awarding it 5 stars. In our experience the wait staff was inconsistent and, as is typical of this part of the world, not good at what they do. What I mean is they serve your food and immediately you have two separate servers ask "How's your food?" This comes, of course, right after asking for a minute more to look over the menu to only be left for 20 minutes... poor service that is unfortunately typical here. We so much prefer European or Latin American (or even other parts of N. America) style of service: they are present when you need water, or have a question, but not annoying you when it's unnecessary.

Food: we loved the roasted pork tacos. The brisquet tacos were decent, but the pork was much better. Good house salad and a nice dessert. Overall, this is a nice place to go for good food at a reasonable price.

First and last time to visit The Tavern, had the Baja Fish Tacos, the fish was a whole filet placed on top of SMALL tortillas with a few pieces of cabbage, cilantro, pickled onions and tomato, never did find the chipotle sauce. All of this sitting on top of four small tortillas that had become soggy, YUK. Service, what service, the place was not very busy, yet after about 5 minutes we had to ask the hostess if we were going to have anyone help us. Not a good experience.

Located just south of West Vickery on Hulen St is near the TCU campus and has many students as regulars!
Don't take that wrong either, the student that frequent the Tavern or of a more sophisticated lot... yes there such a thing!
This cool little Tavern has a marvelous wine selection and many beers from around the world.
My favorite bar drink is the Tito's Lemonade (Tito's is the only distillery in Texas).
All of their entrees are delicious, but my top three favorites are from their Daily Menu..
Starting with the 'Monday' Pecan Trout (hey I grew up in Texas and my Uncle had 20 acres of Pecan Trees) which is tender and has a slight nutty flavor.
The tie for second is the 'Friday' Red Snapper Creole (Aiiee) tender and with a 'bite' and the 'Saturday' Wild King Salmon which doesn't taste fishy and falls apart its so tender.
I love their menu select from the Ahi Tuna Burger and Baja Fish Tacos to their Prime Sirloin.
Brunch is wonderfully fresh and flavorful!
They have a choice for everyone and are reasonably priced!
Oh yeah.. you need to try their blueberry sausage too!
The atmosphere is upbeat and friendly but not to loud and you can come in and chill with a glass (or bottle) of wine after a grueling day at work.
This is a place ... that when you leave you feel 'really good' and it makes you want to come back and have that feeling again!

We started with the cornbread which was awesome. I had the nightly special which was a braised short rib. The meat was super tender and full of flavor, and the veggies that accompanied it were so good! My wife had the steak and enchilada and she loved it. The steak was cooked exactly as she requested and the enchilada was very unique with a smoky mole sauce. We had key lime pie for dessert and it was so good we ordered another one to take home. The atmosphere is very cool and the service was great. We can't wait to go back!
