Of all the new restaurants around 7th Street in Fort Worth, Fireside Pies provides a middle of the road, relaxing evening. Greeted by smiles from the hosts, they know I rarely come with more than one or two friends so we can sit at the bar. Choice seats are facing the pizza oven watching the chefs magically pull the dough almost apple strudel style with the knuckles of all ten fingers. A good wine by the glass list pleases me because I can have white or rose and then red. Splitting a pizza and salad is enough for two, but don't miss the sweet potato stuffed pasta with sage butter sauce. My only sadness is that Amanda, the executive chef, just left to open a Fireside Pies in Los Angeles area. They are lucky --- maybe I'll stop by.
