I frequent this park on a regular basis. It's huge. It has at least a 7 mile bike/walking/skating trail. Plus a small pond, plenty of open fields, a play ground and plenty of nonpaved paths.

I really like the duck are and fountain along with the views of the river and downtown. The area is amply shaded and a good place to walk or run.

Every time I go here, it's a disaster. If someone's not trying to break into your car, then they're begging at your window for change, or running from the cops and trying to car jack you to get away from them! (All three which have happened to me and scared the bejeezus right out of me!!) To add to the unpleasantness, the Trinity River stinks to high heaven and makes you gag if the wind blows just the "right" way. I'd question exactly how polluted this river is, as we can merely cross over it on one of the many bridges in D/FW and still get blown away from the odor that comes off of it on certain days. It's amazing to me that they still hold May Days, July 4th fests, and so forth all on the banks of this park. Yeeeeck! I'd be scared of falling in and coming back out with a disease! :( Now I hear they are talking about making fancy hotels and entertainment to go around this river bank? Geesh... that'll be the day. So yeah, I just don't recommend visiting this place unless they seriously clean and drudge this river and then halt the pollution to it, as well as get rid of the crime in the area. Have your BBQ's, weddings, and birthday celebrations in a safer, cleaner area!

Doesn't matter where you start your walk or run or bicycle ride, every section is great. You can go for a short distance and for as long as you want. Frequent water fountains but stop off at a restroom before you go.
