Zambrano is a fun evening! The bruschetta is the best in town! Z's chef really knows his cheeses!

My husband & I were in Sundance Square for a concert at Bass Hall last Friday night (8/6/10) and had dinner at Zambrano Wine Cellar. It was great food, service, wine, etc. It has a very cozy atmosphere where you can sit & talk & just enjoy the evening. We will definitely be returning!

While we are not wine snobs or even wine-savvy by the standards of a sommelier, my wife and I enjoy drinking good wine in environments that cater to the experience. We don't ask for a lot. When planning a wine-related outing, we look for a wine list with a good deal of variety and a staff that is passionate about sharing their knowledge. Our recent move to Texas had left us feeling a sense of withdrawal, as we were having a difficult time finding more than a couple venues that were even decent at providing this kind of experience. Fort Worth seemed to be a wine-lover's wasteland. All that changed last night..!

Zambrano (also known as Z Wine Cellar) was a complete and total surprise. The establishment is located outside of the Sundance Square area that normally draws all the attention of local diners and weekend revellers, yet it was within easy walking distance of the popular downtown parking lots. The interior was small, and the ambience was dark and intimate. Given our previous experiences with Fort Worth wine bars, our expectation level was set rather low. It was an incredible surprise to be completely blown away..!

We were presented several menus by Rachel, who was attentive, knowledgeable and extremely pleasant. She took a great deal of time telling the story of the restaurant/store, the owner and the wines that they had to offer. We were able to order flights that were made up of wines that we each enjoyed more than others, which was something we had not been able to do at other venues in town. The glassware was elegant and perfect for each variety we had chosen. The wines were served at their ideal temperatures, and the vintages we were provided had the most amazing taste, texure and complexity. With over 300 wines available by the bottle and more than 50 wines available by the glass, this wine bar truly has something for everyone...from the new wine initiate to the most decerning of experienced connoseuirs. The inventory of bottles was even available for retail purchase, which was convenient when we fell in love with several.

The food was exceptional at Zambranos, as well. We started with a meat and cheese selection where we were able to pick our own favorites and have them paired with fruit and nuts. It could have been a wonderful dinner unto itself, but we opted for two different kinds of gourmet brushetta to round out our meals (which were perfectly prepared). Drinking this incredible wine and dining on these fantasic flavors, we agreed we could have been sitting in one of the best culinary houses in the country and spent most of the night making yummy noises as we enjoyed our selections.

But the experience would have only been fantastic if the wine, food and ambience were all we had taken away. The true defining element of this wine bar has to be the people who work there. Our server, Rachel, was fully invested in the quality of our experience and took such amazing care of us. She made terrific recommendations and followed up to insure we enjoyed them as much as she had predicted. But having the bar's owner, Cef Zambrano, come to our table and spend the better part of half an hour discussing wine, their origins and even making recommendations for our upcoming trip to Napa this summer was beyond anything I could have expected. It was obvious that he had a passion for the business, the wine and the prospect that perfect strangers would appreciate it as much as he does. He even set us up with a friend in Napa for a personalized tasting while we are in town. Who does that???

My wife and I have been fortunate enough to visit wine bars in New York, Boston, Chicago and dozens of other major metropolitan destinations around the globe, and this was the best wine experience we have ever had on planet Earth. If you are in Fort Worth and want to be "wowed" by food and wine in a romantic and relaxing setting, I couldn't recommend any business more completely. Zambrano and his team have this industry mastered, and I am grateful such a great experience exists in my own back yard.
