THe stockyards are a good place to momentarily step back in time. THe hustle and bustle of all the visitors take away the ambiance, but if you go on a weekend you can see the "cowboys" in the street walking around, a "cattle drive" ( usually ony 12 or less longhorns, but worth a view) there is even bull to sit on and take a pic if you so desire. Lots of history here. Good place for history buffs, and children.

You like to wear cowboy boots? Ya like horses? Ya like rodeos? Its the place for you. I'm a HUGE country music, lifestyle stuff and I love it. There's stuff to do for all ages because they're stuff for little kids [ ponies I mean lol and like a mini zoo] and for grown ups a little beer won't kill. Of course tons of souvenirs to buy. And my fav to take pics with local old westers I mean cowboys with their cool outfits [ with tips of course]. Hope you can enjoy it.

There are many restaurants here, and we enjoyed walking around, but the western aspect seemed forced and a little phony. After you've seen a few of the stores, they all start to look the same. By the end I felt sorry for the horses, longhorns and " cowboys". May be better suited for those with very young children.

We decided to go and "have a look". What a wonderful day we had at the Stock Yards. We booked a walking tour which is a must as you hear amazing but true stories of wealth, friendship and amazing mustering tales. We wandered through the shops, met interesting people and stayed for dinner. We left with great memories, full bellies and our Texas Boots.

Fort Worth seems to lie in the shadow of Dallas, but to be honest, I think it's a REALLY nice city, and the Stockyards is a great place to have a day out, sampling "Texas", so to speak.

Sure, it's VERY touristy, but it's got quite a few interesting museums, events, and places of interest that can be done in a day, and give people, especially non-Americans, a taste of Texas, America, the mid-west and the cowboy culture.

There's some great shops around, too, and plenty of places to eat. Surprisingly, a lot of the shops and restaurants are still reasonably priced, for such a tourist-focussed location as well, which is always refreshing.

You need to be there for the "running of the bulls', the parade of Longhorn cattle down the main (cobblestoned) street, and you should also get your picture taken on one. (There's normally a guy there charing $5 to sit on one, and have your friends take pictures - it's kinda cool).

A fun day out...
