The Stockyards is a fun place to go, and I highly recommend a visit while in DFW. However, keep in mind this destination is touristy. There is some good food, some bars, maybe some longhorns out on the street for photos ($5 each). It's a fun destination. Unless you're made of money, don't buy western wear or boots there. Cheaper alternatives are available where the real public shops. As far as food, I'd recommend The Star Cafe. You'll have trouble getting a seat during the dinner hour, but there's a reason. This place has great steaks and is the place to eat at the stockyards. As far as the bars, most of them are dumps. If you want a great place to go at the stockyards, walk all the way (three blocks) up to 302 Exchange St. (or park up there to begin with - FREE street parking). They open later, but have some good music (unlike the other dumps). It's $10 cover (worth it). Longnecks are way overpriced like every other place in the stockyards, but the band makes it worth while. If you want some dancing, this place is where you want to go. If you want some history, this place is it also.
