Arriving 7pm from Tucson enroute to San Antonio and chose CS because we had a discount. Good thing. The room rate was $125, plus local taxes, ended up $140!! Sorry, but on the way over to Tucson from San Antone, we stayed at a Marriott Springhill Suites on the Mesa offramp just west of El Paso for $94 which included a much greater selection of breakfast items. $140 for a room in a town with no visible life support for dining is out of line. We assume they are taking advantage of the oil field workers, but their expenses are most likely paid by the company. We travel this road at least four times a year back and forth between Tucson, Ruidoso, points west and our home in San Antonio and have done for 13 years. Fort Stockton has improved a little from 1999, but not in the food category. Sorry to say, but this inn is overpriced and one can only assume it's because they have a captive audience. Start your trip from Tucson, etc., by 0600 and you will be able to make San Antonio or Austin without being forced to stay in Fort Stockton. Specifically can't complain about the room itself; it was clean, staff friendly. $100-$110 would have been ok, but $140 unrealistic.

The room smelled smoky even though it's a non-smoking building. The reception desk person was completely uninterested in providing service. The HVAC needs a shield to prevent the blast of air off the outside bed. We expect more from this price-range.

We do apologize for getting a room that had been smoked in. Our hotel in 100% smoke-free. And if we smell or have guests tell us that they smell smoke, we do try and find out where it is coming from. I personally take the non-smoking rule very hard and to the point of calling guests to find out who is smoking. Fines are in place also and we tell every guest about our non-smoking policy.

Stayed here while traveling through Texas. The front desk gentleman when we checked in was efficient and rushed to get us checked in but nothing more. No conversation or thanks for your business. Not necessarily a bad thing but not what I am used to. The room was spacious and clean but there was an almost 1" gap between the door and floor which let a lot of light through as we'll as being able to hear anything that was going on in the hallway. On checkout we seemed to be bothering the girl at the desk as she was working on something in the computer and seemed bothered to stop and check us out. So not a bad room or hotel but definitely not the friendly customer service I'm used to from Choice hotels.

My wife stayed at the Comfort Suites while driving from Phoenix to Austin at the end of August. We had gone to bed when the A/C unit started to rattle. I called the front desk and asked if we could change rooms. We were told by the desk clerk that the only rooms that were available were next to the elevator. I asked him if I could check out one of the rooms that was furthest from the elevator and could he bring me up a key to the room. He said if was too busy and said I would have to come get the key. Great customer service. I was then told that I could only change rooms once, that if I didn't like the room near the elevator we would have to stay in it anyway. More great customer service. We did relocate to a room near the elevator which worked out fine. A/C unit was quiet. Bed was comfortable, but because of the indifferent attitude by the guy at the front desk we would not recommend anyone stay here.

Room Tip: A/C unit rattles in room 315

Fort Stockton is a good spot for an overnight stay when traveling through Texas. The Comfort Suites is fairly new and offers large reasonably priced rooms with a king bed and semi-private seating area. Lots of good restaurants are nearby. There was a hot entree with the free breakfast.
