Even with the 80 mph speed limit on I-10, you are probably not going to get through West Texas without an overnight stay and the small towns that dot the highway present a real lottery of places to spend the night. I was surprised & very happy to have found the Comfort Suites in Fort Stockton. It appears to be relatively new. The room was way above my expectations and included a clean, nice-sized, semi-divided room with sleeping area and work/rest area with a desk, couch and coffee table. All this for less than $100! The room also had a nice large bathroom with a tub/shower configuration. The room was equipped with a small refrigerator, coffee maker, flat-screen TV, and a microwave. The free continental breakfast was very average, but completely satisfactory. The parking lot was large and well lighted so you will not have to park your car in some dimly lit corner. I was sufficiently impressed with this motel that I will probably join their rewards program, and will look more closely at all Comfort Inns in the future.
As a general recommendaton about any lodging in West Texas, get a reservation ahead of time. The area is experiencing a huge economic boom due to oil and gas production. Fort Stockton is currrently on the cusp of these production areas, and the hotel staff told me they are beginning to get the spill-over of oil-field workers from neighboring towns where a motel room will run you $200 if you can get it.
