We travel back and forth between Dallas and Houston regularly since family resides on both ends of I45. We routinely stop at Sam's for dependable and consistent quality comfort food. It had been a number of months since our last stop but on April 15 we decided to make our most recent visit. The restaurant is nothing to look at from the outside and they do have quite a concession of candles, cards, and the like in the lobby area . . . but nothing is "pushed at you." The restaurant, I'm sure, generates the primary revenue, not the gift shop.
We both agreed as we were seated to order the buffet, Sam's claim to fame, but there are plenty of items on their menu to choose from if you choose not to order the buffet. Overall, based on variety alone, the buffet is what most of their patrons choose.
I skipped the soup and basic salads that I typically eat at home and and decided to hone in on their prepared salads starting with their potato salad and pea salad then chased that with fried okra and BBQ brisket. My husband headed straight to the turkey and dressing but fortified the selection with a few healthy sides. OMG, we were in piglet heaven. In fact, he said, as he continued to eat, "Next time I'll just fill it plate with the turkey and dressing. It tastes just like yours at Thanksgiving." He was so impressed with the amazing down home flavor of the food.
If you haven't tried Sam's you really don't know what you're missing. All of their food is tasty. You will not be dissappointed. And for a mere $11.99 all you can eat buffet with an amazing assortment of desserts included, it's a bargain!
